COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

AleSmith X Pours golden with a thick white head. Rather hazy and some nice lacing on the glass. Good retention. Aroma of citrus and hops. Very pleasing aroma with nice balance. Taste is hops on the level of an IPA with a sweet citrusy feel. Yummy for a lighter bodied beer with more flavor than I was anticipating. Slightly bitter hops aftertaste that does not linger. Great party beer when you want to show off without being off putting.

After a day of drinking massive IPAs this was just what a needed, a simple, clean, orangy-fruity pale ale that’s so very drinkable.

A: Very pale golden color, lots of carbonation, and an enormous amount of foam. S: A decent citrus hop aroma, but certainly not a punch in the face. T: Lemon, grapefruit, and a bit of malt and yeast on the finish. Interesting flavor. M: Very crisp and dry, tons of carbonation. D: Good drinkability, the carbonation and crispness make this a refreshing beer.

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2010 This was an awesome pale ale. Citrus, hops, spices, pine... very nice complex flavor and aroma. Lots of carbonation and head and a great finish. Bravo to AleSmith once again.

Location: On tap at the Brewery, 1/8/10

Aroma: Aroma of grapefruit, caramel malts, resin, and pine
Appearance: Hazy golden-amber color with a creamy head
Flavor: Taste is resiny hops and some fruit juice, with sweet malts
Palate: Light-medium of body, nice mouthfeel, drinks really nicely
Overall Impression: This is a really solid APA. Another good beer from AleSmith, this pale has a lot of nice west coast hop character to it. A very good brew.

From a really old rating note - on tap at the Alesmith brewery tour: hazy gold pour with a fair bit of carbonation. Grass and hops in the aroma. Sweet light hoppy taste. Great texture. That’s all I have on this one other than a score. Would love to try again.

UPDATED: MAR 23, 2010 Bomber. It pours a nice light golden and has a sharp citrus hop aroma. It starts with strong bitter hop flavors followed by a champagne-like carbonation fizz bomb on the tongue and a dry, citrusy finish. Overall flavor is crisp and refreshing and on the light side for a Pale Ale.

X pours a golden transparent yellow into my pint glass. The smell is hoppy, citrus, a slight pine scent and it is really inviting. The taste follows the nose and exhibits all the same characteristics. Mouthfeel was good and my only complaint is that I poured slow and careful and still got massive foam. I woudl love to buy six-packs of this beer as it is really good. I usually don’t like extra pale ales but I preferred this over Alesmith IPA (which is a winner itself). San Diego does come with some truly great beers. Damn you Alesmith!!! Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 04-12-2007 18:08:31
