COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

hazy pale golden color or rich straw... take yer pick. either way there are clumps of yeast floating around in her and she’s capped by a soft, soapy and wispy nearly white head. drippy random splotches of lace are left on the glass. incredibly hoppy aroma... pine, wood, earthy spice, flowers, orange pith, grapefruit and grass/skunk/noble with a touch of pale malty sweetness. the palate is quite dry throughout though it has a substantial pale malt back ground.... the flavor is not aggressive... just good. it is a mix of all those tasty aforementioned hoppy characteristics, pale malt and a mildly bitter parching finish. medium bodied with a nice controlled dryness. it is refreshing and pairs very well with most any food. i must have gotten a freshy because this is stellar... and a helluva deal for $3! 8/4/8/3/16/3.9

AleSmith’s pale is some brewrey’s IPA. Just a bounty of goodness with this beer. The beer pours out a clear solid gold color with a hefty 2" thick white head that left behind some intricate lace work. Aroma is decidedly citrusy, with a bit of pine and bready malts showing up. Flavor is a 2-step of citrus and pine with some light toast and caramel wiggling around. Soooo drinkable. I knocked off the bomber in no-time. Now I’d like another, but the nearest bottle is about 400 miles away.

Sampled on tap at Alesmith. The first beer I tried there on site. Pours a transparent yellow gold with a frothy white head. The nose on this is great, perfume, flowers, lemons, pine, oranges, grass, a little spice. Flavor is actually very mild, oranges, pine, grass, sweet malt. Finish is bitter but not over powering. One of the group’s favorites, a very good example of the style.

Pours a clear banana-yellow with a poofy head. Very lager-like in appearance, yes. Aroma is of hops, sweet malt, a little floral, a little musky towel. Flavor is mostly hoppy, with just a little malt, and artificial sweetener flavor. Watery, dead mouthfeel. Decent, but overrated and overpriced. A letdown. Overall, fair to good.

Pours bright yellow with a small white head that sticks around for the duration. To the nose it has a nice floral, almost sweet hop with a hint of pine. As for taste it is crisp and clean and finishes with the hop/piney flavor. It is not in my overall top ten, but it is a decent beer at a decent price and that is all we can ask for. I would recommend this beer and I would purchase it again. Cheers.
