2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: NOV 8, 2013 Bottle. Lightly hazed gold. Citrus pith hop nose with some small amount of pine resin that seems softened by a dull, chalky yeast character (something I consider a positive here). Pineapple rind (sometimes seems rotting / fermenting) and lemon, orange and peach fruit character dominates. Medium to light body with low sweetness and medium bitterness, balanced enough for my tastes, and soft enough to make it enjoyable. Tingly, invigorating hop acids with a soft malt presentation. Still one of my favorites from AleSmith, though itís a mid-3 now rather than a high-3.
Re-rate: X is a diacetyl bomb now. Dirty beer. Shameful that itís released and sold in this shape.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clear golden with a sticky but thin white head. Nose has a lot of ground pepper and grapefruit rind, and a touch of pine. Flavor is citrus-hoppy at the start featuring zesty lemon and sweet grapefruit, with a sweet citrusy backing that is neither caramel or toffee or blonde malt...as if they somehow extracted malt sugars from cascade hops. Light piney and leafy finish with a restrained and tasty bitterness.

Soft. This ale is the first I have ever encountered that is soft. AleSmith has written a delightful description of this ale thatís accurate all the way through but leaves out the word "soft," which is a relief because otherwise I wouldnít have had anything new to write in this analysis. Glad youíre now in WI, AleSmith.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at my new house with the faj. Pour is golden orange with a big white head and decent lacing. Earthy, somewhat grassy, grapefruity, orange peel, heavy malty, bready, and straw aroma. Taste is grapefruit, stale fruit, orange peel, straw, biscuit, and earthiness with a lightly bitter finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Pretty tasty pale, but I donít know what it is about Alesmiths hop choice - I just donít enjoy it very much.

Bottle and fresh draft at Bella Vist block party. Pours hazy yellow gold with medium whiteish head. Notes of citrus, pine, fuel, and caramel malt. Tried this a few times, if its fresh, it can be pretty addictive. Aroma is amazing at times with some orange sherbert. Medium body. Nicee.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Concordia Ale House in Portland, OR. Clean fruity nose with some caramel. Clear copper color. Tasty, balanced stuff. Not terribly exciting, but good enough. Goes flat rather quickly. An unusual lighter style from this "big beer" brewery.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle. Thick, unfiltered light yellow-tan-orange body. Foamy, steady, glass lacing white head. Lemony pine tastes, very balanced and refreshing. A touch earthy, watery and easy. The hops are very present, but unique from an IPA, very clean, classic, bitter. Pretty much nails it. Iíd assume this is even better fresh at the brewery.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Light straw colored pour with small white head. Aroma of malts, hay and hops. Taste of malts, sweet corn, hay and a dry hoppy finish, hint of citrus. Light bodied, nicely carbonated for a nice crisp mouthfeel. I was expecting a little more from this one.
