3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 shigadeyo (2394) - Harrison, Ohio, USA - DEC 2, 2006
Rating #300... I received this bottle of AleSmith X from my uncle on the West coast. Thanks James! -- This beer pours a pale golden yellow color with a slight haze. The carbonation is lively and fun to watch - it spirals upward from the bottle of the glass. There is a HUGE fluffy near-white head that collapses slowly and leaves a thick, foamy crown and fine, web-like lacing. The aroma is sweet and smells of light pineapple mixed with some pine and a little yeast. The flavor is an interesting blend of banana, some citrus, and some doughy malt. The crisp, clean pine-like bitterness really hits in the finish, but it isn’t overpowering. The mouth feel is light and pretty fizzy.
I thought this was another solid brew from an awesome brewery. It isn’t as good as some of their other phenomenal beers, but it definitely has it’s place and complements the Cranberry & Pepper Boursin cheese and pita chips that I am enjoying with it!
-- 12 oz bottle, gift from uncle.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 dhlesq (233) - Thousand Oaks, California, USA - NOV 20, 2006
Aroma of sweet malt with muted pine resin - like the IPA but toned down a bit. Appears a pale but brassy yellow with notable effervescence, and with a creamy white head. Flavor is well-balanced with bready malt notes underlying western hops, and finishing with a pleasant residual sweetness. Palate is medium to medium-light ad very refreshing. Overall, greater than my expectations and a thoroughly enjoyable brew.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 alexanderj (2829) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - NOV 17, 2006
Bottle. I really enjoyed this pale ale. Very light in appearance and taste for a pale ale. Aroma was of hops, some malt, and citrus. Good palate. Taste was a nice gentle mix of citrus, hops, and a caramel malt. Very easy to drink and very refreshing.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 dwyerpg (3462) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - NOV 15, 2006
Well, this is a pale ale that is actually quite pale. It looks like a lager. Good hoppy aroma. The taste has some funky malty/nutty characters that aren’t so good, but it has a nice hoppy finish.

Aroma is nice, earthy, but not incrediblly strong. Pours golden, not too much head, some nice lacing. Flavor is awesome. Absolutely delicious. Very complex, with citrus and pine hitting up front, with a nice caramel finish. Relatively full body. Very nice APA.

22oz bomber. Clear golden color with bright white head. Crisp citrus hop aroma with a bit of lemon too. Taste just as it smells. Nice crisp hop flavor with citrus, grapefruit and maybe lemon. Some light pale malts come in to add balance.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Cornfield (5239) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - OCT 20, 2006
An exellent example of an APA, this brew has a clear golden body with a two-finger, creamy white head. The nose is an aromatic blending of buscuity malts wiyth a daub of honey and zest of lemon, grapefruit, and pine scents. The flavor, too, is a smooth blend of the above with none taking dominance, simply melding to deliver a refreshing drink. With a 5% ABV, this is a great session ale... or, would be, if it was available in my area.
