COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, tupalev & jerc - courtesy of HogTownHarry. Golden-orange colour with a small white head. Fresh hops on the nose with some roasted grain in the background - very nice. Flavour has a quick hit of honey off the top, some lemon tea in the middle, and a nicely hopped finish. Another great American session ale that we can’t get locally - have I mentioned lately how frustrated I am by the lack of good US beers at the LCBO? Argh.

22oz from fordest. Pours a cloudy yellow with a white foamy head. Nose is quite citrusy, lots of grass and hay. Taste is nice and fruity, very sweet and citrsuy, lots of oranges, limes, grass and fresh earthy outdoors.

Bottle shared with hogtown harry, blankboy, jerc, and gregclow, courtesy of harry. Strong fresh hop aroma, lots of grapefruit. Really nice grapefruit hop taste - some hints of lemon as well. Lots of malt. Short lingering hops at the end. Light mouthfeel despite the abundance elf malt. An excellent American Pale, this would be a go to pint for me if local.

"Hey look! An Alesmith!" - Tupalev <P> Light orangey body, with a white head. Mild citrus, and very muted resin in the aroma. Citrus is similarly muted in the flavour with moderate malt. Average palate. Flavour is pleasant but restrained. Quaffable but unexciting.

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2005 Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc, tupalev - courtesy of yours truly. Poured murky orange with a decent lasting white creamy head. Somewhat funky west coast hops and mild malt, a bit grassy - average. Taste is very mild, hops/malt, some lemon and sweetgrass. Mouthfeel light, smooth, a little acidic - terrific summer beer, would be a fine session pint (or four).

@ Alesmith: Yellow with a white head. Light malty aroma with nice citrus notes. Flavor has more citrus and some acidity mixed with caramel malt. Dry finish.

cloudy amber color. Lots of lemongrass in aroma with touch of pine. Starts off with a hoppy and slightly bitter kick which fades to a slightly sweet finish. Overall and nice light pale ale. not my favorite though of the alesmith lineup but still a good beer.

Bottle. Pours the color of apple cider. Medium white head. Smells citrusy and hoppy with a tinge of malts. Tastes pretty light - the malts start and the hops finish this beer. Slightly sweet finish. Smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel.

Bottled. Pours gold with just this side of a copper hue. Big frothy white head. Slightly malty aroma with some lemon grass and citrus notes. Decent malt character with some citrus and dusty hop notes. Finishes very clean and quick.

22 oz bottle, via trade w/ Fordest. Poured a hazy straw with average sized white head. Decent retention till the end. Light citrus hop aroma over a lightly malty nose. Nicely balanced flavor, a little lighter on the malt vs. the hops. Lighter bodied and creamy on the palate, moderate carbonation. Overall a nice Pale Ale, very drinkable. After entering this from my notebook I read the commercial description at the left and that really says it all, very accurate.
