COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

Simple pleasant hoppy and biscuity aroma. Like a good english golen ale in some ways. Some flapjacls. Thinpalate, harsh carbonation. Alas pored with lots of sinky bits. Really puts me off. Head tiny, too brief. Nasty minerally taste. Touch muddy and dirty. Drying palate, leaves me wanting to scrape my tongue, and order something drinkable. Is it chalk? I don’t know. Did not enjoy. Thanks stranger in 5P who traded his IPA for some of this.

Very soft mouthfeel, an old style pale ale, great with lunch as sessionable. Understated bitterness and citrus lemon. Dry finish and bitter aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours clear dark gold with an average, fizzy white head, medium-short retention with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (cookie, meal, toast), heavy hops (citrus, herbal, floral), and average esters (fruity) with notes of lemon. Flavor is light malt with a moderate hop flavor and subdued bitterness. Light body, low warmth, medium carbonation and a dry finish.

Bottle from Olbutikken. Very light haze on the pale gold beer. Tidy but short lived white head. Palate is light and a little soft with mild fine carbonation. Semi dry. Mild sweet pale malt supports fairly floral hops. Touch of elderflower but mainly white flowers. Mild tangerine stops it getting cloying. Finishes semi crisp and semi dry. Effortlessly quaffable!

Bottle courtesy of dirty_martini. Pours gold with a nice white head. Smells of flowers, grass, lots of citrus, some tea, hints of biscuits. Taste yields a nicely balanced bitterness with some dry malt and touches of sweetness on the finish. One of the best APAs I’ve had to date.

Thanks to Foolish Mortal for this one! The pour is hazy dark golden with a 2-finger, creamy white head. The aroma is pale malty, fruity, and hopcitric, with the fruits leading the way, including pears, apricots, and applesauce. The flavor is pale malty, very fruity, with some pears, apricots, honey, hops, and black pepper. Medium, very complex and smooth palate. This beer won’t knock your socks off in any particular category, but it adds up to a very good, refreshing, quaffable beer.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2006 Lots of bubbles climb the glass to form a gentle white cover atop the shining hazy golden body. Aroma is rather straightforward and citric, tart with pine, lemon and fresh C-hops. Alright malt backbone, lemon pie and biscuity. Clean altogether and tarter than most which contributes to refreshment. Dry lasting hoppy finish. Light body with bubbles not as apparent as expected. Fine basic beer.

Bought amn this is really good. Best pale I may have ever had. Amber pour. aroma is delicious. Hops, citrus, caramel, bread dough and maybe some pineapple. Flavor is full and awesome. Fruity and hoppy. Grapefruit, bread, caramel. Damn what a brew.

Bomber. Poured clear, brighter golden with a well-retained creamy cap of creamy white head. The aroma was softer with dry light fruity notes, grapefruit, and pine.. nice. The flavor had a sweet grapefruit and other light fruity core with with dusty lemon zest and pine bitterness around the edges.. zesty lemon and dried floral bitterness on the finish. Creamy middle, with a very dry, great feel on the finish.. nice balance throughout. This would be a solid every-day drinker if available.

"Hey look! An Alesmith!" - Tupalev <P> Light orangey body, with a white head. Mild citrus, and very muted resin in the aroma. Citrus is similarly muted in the flavour with moderate malt. Average palate. Flavour is pleasant but restrained. Quaffable but unexciting.
