COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

Hazey and pale golden yellow color, steady carbonation within with a tall one inch head of perfectly evened and bubbled whitish froth leaving great amounts of sticky webby sheets as it diminishes. A thick skim remains present the entire glass down. Nice looking glass of ale! Nice citrusy strong hop nose mixed with a floral tone and a toasty bread-like malt backing. Crisp, fresh, well rounded, balanced, and yummy smellin'. Taste is well balanced between a sweet citrusy hop edge and a toasty biscuit malt backing, there's some nice little subtleties, and a great give and take between em. Hops give, malts take, malts give, hops take, its not a battle, more like a gentle pardon to let one compliment the other til it finishes with yet more intriguing subtle things going on where it drys out staying crisp up front but smoothing in the back. I'm fascinated by its balance. Exceptional feel for a pale, crisp and smooth, yielding hoppy citrus tones leaving little tidbits of bittering both on the palate and even the lips. Close to full body with a slightly fluffy carbonation where a fine maltiness coats the middle areas and where left over hops may casually burp up. Finishing very gradual into a drying of both characters between the citrusy sweet hops and toasty malts. This is one hell of a balanced pale, quite nice, well rounded, and well balanced. Did I mention its well balanced? I liked it eh. Fine, fine stuff!

0.66 l bottle at Harry’s, Jyväskylä. Golden color. Citrusy aroma with lemon, grapefruit and pine. Citrusy and piney taste with lingenring minerally bitterness. Sweet malt is in the background. Lighter body than in most APAs, fairly minerally also. Good but a bit ordinary beer from Alesmith.

Bottle from Olbutikken. Very light haze on the pale gold beer. Tidy but short lived white head. Palate is light and a little soft with mild fine carbonation. Semi dry. Mild sweet pale malt supports fairly floral hops. Touch of elderflower but mainly white flowers. Mild tangerine stops it getting cloying. Finishes semi crisp and semi dry. Effortlessly quaffable!

Bottle bought at Ølbutikken. Light orange with a small white head. Quite a lot of hops and fruit in the aroma, also some grass and cookies. The taste was good but a bit "weak". Easy to drink with a lot of carbonation.

[5/13/12] Bottle at Den Tatoverede Enke in Copenhagen. Clear golden with a slowly-dissipating frothy white head. Aroma of grainy hops with some resinous and grapefruit notes. Hoppy flavor, rather dry, with some slightly sweetish crackery malt and a nice moderately bitter finish. Nothing amazing, but a tasty quaffable beer.

Mycket trevlig och frisk humledoft. Något mer beskeden i smaken men trevlig frisk. Saknar dock lite fyllighet och lite väl mycket kolsyra. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours yellow with low white head. Aromas of citrusy fruits, caramel malts, some breadyness. Taste is centered around a malty base, some hoppyness of citrusy fruits, medium bitter ending. Would like a fuller body but for a pale ale it is really nice!

Sabor lleugerament amarg, amb gust de fruita amb incidència dels llúpols que porta, l’escuma es suau i daurada. Aroma de llúpol afruitat i caramel. El final és sec i amarg. Molt ben equilibrada. Cervesa de sessió.

660ml bottle (Viisi Pennia, Helsinki)
Simple pleasant hoppy and biscuity aroma. Like a good english golen ale in some ways. Some flapjacls. Thinpalate, harsh carbonation. Alas pored with lots of sinky bits. Really puts me off. Head tiny, too brief. Nasty minerally taste. Touch muddy and dirty. Drying palate, leaves me wanting to scrape my tongue, and order something drinkable. Is it chalk? I don’t know. Did not enjoy. Thanks stranger in 5P who traded his IPA for some of this.

(Bottle, 0.65 l, at Oluttupa Viisi Penniä, 20120515) The beer poured golden and almost clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, pine and citricness. Palate was medium bodied with quite high carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, pine, hops, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was citric and bitter. Tasty but thin.
