COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year we anxiously await the warmer months to unleash this Double IPA, the summer edition of our YuleSmith seasonals. The flavor imparts orange, grapefruit, and tangerine hop notes with earthy, spicy, and resinous pine undertones. A sturdy malt backbone balances out the profound hop bitterness to create a refreshingly assertive and vibrant beer that offers an unapologetically bold expression of fresh American hops.

Poured into a teku glass with a practically opaque dark honey brown with a clean but cloudy white heads. Bottled in May so I’ve had this for over 7 months before opening. The nose shows very subtle but clean and refreshing tropical-fruits. Caramel malts seem to center stage here. Probably not so if fresh. The palate is medium bodied showing the same subtle but clean & refreshing tropical fruit juiciness with moderate carbonation. A very strong malt backbone supports the beer with the distinct IPA bitterness at the end. Probably would be amazing if poured fresh but still very good.

TET (1958) - FINLAND - JAN 23, 2015
A light yellow, slightly orange coloured beer with a quite big and blond head. The nose has peaches, grapefruits, citrusfruits and some pine needles, slightly caramelly malts, hint of flowers, not totally fresh. Taste has storng caramel malts, not too sweet due to bitterness, grapefruits, some pine. Warming alcohol and hint of that is also noticed in the taste. Medium+ bodied, balanced to drink. This is good beer but still "wow" feeling is missing.

Bomber shared between five at the January 2015 Shrewsbury bottle exchange group meeting. Misty golden pour, white head. Tropical fruit nose and flavours, mango, peaches and apricots came to mind as I devoured my share of the beer. Very, very drinkable.

bottle from Bierkompass. Hazy golden with a large white head. Full-bodied, intensive malty base with an alcoholic touch, quite warming. Lots of grassy and fruity hops, slightly piney, with mango and peach.

This has the expected strong resin, pine and spruce flavors, with just a little citrus (not sweet or juicy though). Well-balanced by bready, toasty malts. Drinkable for a very high IBU brew. It’s good, but hard to distinguish from other good DIPA’s. In fairness, my bottle was ~6 months old, so a fresh bottle might be even better.

65cl bottle from Erzbierschof. Pours in a slightly cloudy, yellowish orange color. The aroma is fruity, pointing at various aroma hops. The taste confirms these suspicions: It is indeed very fresh, fruity, combined with just the right amount of bitterness. An outstanding beer indeed.
