Every year we anxiously await the warmer months to unleash this Double IPA, the summer edition of our Yulesmith Seasonals. The flavor imparts orange, grapefruit, and tangerine hop notes with earthy, spicy, and resinous pine undertones. A sturdy malt backbone balances out the profound hop bitterness to create a refreshingly assertive and vibrant beer that offers an unapologetically bold expression of fresh American hops.
Summer Yulesmith’s citrusy aroma pairs well with many Mexican and Thai dishes, while its bitterness complements the sweetness of rich pork dishes like BLTs or spare ribs. Brawny, intensely flavored cheeses like Danish blues and aged white cheddars are also an effective foil to the aggressive flavor profile of this Imperial IPA.
Serve in a Pint at 45-50*F.

Very hoppy, yeasty, citrus/fruit aroma. Taste is similar, very strong, bold, smooth, and captivating. Very well blended.

Huge tropical nose that goes on and on. Creamy mouthfeel that sticks to your tongue. Hoppy bitterness up front, then rounds out at the end. Beautiful balance between Carmel malts and hoppy resin. A great summer...no, anytime beer!

Running for the best IPA I have had, and up there with Blind Pig, Enjoy By, the Alpine and Kern River stuff... etc. Delightful: inredibly fresh, piney yet tropical notes. Huge hop bouquet. Mouthfeel is intense, tons of hop bitterness, a slight booziness, and mostly a dry mouthfeel. Finish is dry, with more lingering hop bitterness. This is just fantastic stuff. Big tropical notes as well. It reminds me of a better version of Racer X by Bear Republic; an absolute treat of an IPA.

Bottle. Light golden. Aroma is lemon citrus. Taste is grapefruit to the max, acid, resin. Overall, this one definitely grew on me as it went along, though the grapefruit flavour profile is not how I love my IPAs. Definitely well made and tasty.

Tap pour @Covenhoven. Semi cloudy dark orange in glass. Thin head. Irregular lacing. Lush spruce and grapefruit nose. Chessman cookies. Taste is pine resin, orange bitters, and a reserved malt backing. Some tropical fruit on progression. Warm finish. Sticks too the gums. Nice round flavors. Glad I got to try this fresh.

On tap at Ridgewood (Raleigh). Pours a nice amber. Sweet aroma. Hops in the taste, but not powerful. Pretty good summer beer (best summer beer with "Yule" I've ever had). ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear amber color with a moderate off-white head on it. Nose is nice and hoppy, with some nice grass and resiny elements coming off it. Taste seems a little bitter up front, but has a slightly sticky sweetness to it. Really quite a decent beer.

One of my most looked forward to beers each year. Pours perfect orange, with thick white head. Piney citrus on the nose. Very dry, with tons of thick, dank pine hops and a citrus back. Just a great SoCal double IPA

Clear golden orange with a three-finger off-white head that dissipated slowly and left exquisite lace. Rich aromas of citrus and pine hops accompanied by mild spice and caramel malt. Hop bitterness up front - citrus and very nice pine - supported by a moderate but strong malt foundation, but the hops never back down. Medium body and carbonation, creamy mouthfeel, and a rich bitter finish.

650 ml bottle from Premier Gourmet. Pours a fairly clear golden colour with lasting white head. Aroma is full of spicy hops, some subtler tropical fruit and caramel malt. Flavour has big spicy hoppiness, some resin and tangerine notes, solid caramel malt backbone and a little alcohol. Body verges on full. Nice IIPA.
