COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year we anxiously await the warmer months to unleash this Double IPA, the summer edition of our Yulesmith Seasonals. The flavor imparts orange, grapefruit, and tangerine hop notes with earthy, spicy, and resinous pine undertones. A sturdy malt backbone balances out the profound hop bitterness to create a refreshingly assertive and vibrant beer that offers an unapologetically bold expression of fresh American hops.
Summer Yulesmithís citrusy aroma pairs well with many Mexican and Thai dishes, while its bitterness complements the sweetness of rich pork dishes like BLTs or spare ribs. Brawny, intensely flavored cheeses like Danish blues and aged white cheddars are also an effective foil to the aggressive flavor profile of this Imperial IPA.
Serve in a Pint at 45-50*F.

Bottle. Pours a transparent amber with a thin layer of cream colored head. Aroma of malts and hops. Taste of citrus and bitterness and malts. A nice balance.

From a bottle just over 3 months old. Would like to find a fresher sample next May/June. Pours a hazy light copper with lasting white head and great lacing. Aroma is fruity, floral, and herbal. Taste is malt-balanced at first, getting more assertively bitter with grapefruit in the end. Sweet and herbal aftertaste, and comes across overall as a spiced IPA. This is solid overall, even if itís not my ideal IPA flavor profile This must be better fresh to be a Top 20 Double IPA. Itís good, but not outstanding.

Pours a hazy golden with a pillowy head which disappears in good time, lacing the glass the entire way.....aroma is sweet malt, piney, citrus near grapefruit......taste is well carbonated with a solid mouthfeel with grapefruit, sweet malt, slightly earthy and tailing off with slight metallic taste. Slight oiliness on the lips, which is not terribly desirable.....all in all a well built double.

Color dorado diŠfano con densa espuma blanca. Aromas de frutales intensos, toques herbales suaves. Cuerpo medio, inicio dulce y afrutado, seguido de un amargor complejo entre fruta, hierba y resinas, muy equilibrado. Excelente.

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow to light amber. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit), with notes of cardboard and alcohol. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium to full body, watery texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic, moderately astringent. Alesmith has long had issues with premature oxidation, and this is a good, recent example of that...this only hit shelves in the last month or two, but is already noticeably papery. There are still some hops apparent, but not much, and they are the basic resinous-grapefruity variety. Thereís really not much else going on here. Abrasive and caustic in the mouth...astringent and unbalanced. A below average example of the style by anyoneís measure.

Bottle-poured golden color with huge white head. Aroma-WOW!!, fresh piney hops, its xmas in july! Taste is sweet and spicey. Has lemony/pine up front with excellent sweet malt on palate with mildly biiter finish. Mouthfeel is perfect, smooth with nice carbonation. Overall an excellent beer. Reminds me more of a regular ipa and not a double. Not sure ibuís but cant be over 100.

Bottle. Pale amber with a white head. Aroma is earthy and spicy with grapefruit and pine, a surprising vanilla tone. Medium bodied, carbonation is highish, a little higher than Iíd like. Not very sweet with fairly plain pale malty flavours, no caramel. Lots of citrus flavours, earthy and a little peppery at the end. Spices go well there with the dry and firmly bitter finish. No great depth to it, but that dry, almost stern finish more than makes up for it. Would be better for summer, but the seasons donít work that way.

My recommendation is to try this a couple times... In various social settings. Perhaps itís the name and a self fulfilling prophecy, but the beer takes on the "holiday" you enjoy it in. Whether itís a holiday in the summer with neighbors and side walk chalk or an obscure bicentennial celebrating the birth of unicycles, the enjoyment factor directly hinges on your commitment to the festivities. First time trying it... I was invested with great friends and a monumental night. Second time... Same great friends and a great time... But the beer lost itís superiority. An original 4.7 was taken down to a 3.8. So to this I say... íTis the season... sometimes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Starts with fresh citrus, grapefruit and tangerines. Taste follows with the same and a bit more smooth bitterness. Finish is long lasting and clean.
