3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This has the expected strong resin, pine and spruce flavors, with just a little citrus (not sweet or juicy though). Well-balanced by bready, toasty malts. Drinkable for a very high IBU brew. It’s good, but hard to distinguish from other good DIPA’s. In fairness, my bottle was ~6 months old, so a fresh bottle might be even better.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
65cl bottle from Erzbierschof. Pours in a slightly cloudy, yellowish orange color. The aroma is fruity, pointing at various aroma hops. The taste confirms these suspicions: It is indeed very fresh, fruity, combined with just the right amount of bitterness. An outstanding beer indeed.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
It’s almost winter but why not taste AleSmith’s famed summer IPA... Pours a pale orange with somewhat ochre hue, clear but hazy with deposit and with vivid sparkling, under a thick, clearly hops-enhanced, lacing, egg-white, moussy head with surprisingly good retention seen the ABV. Powerful earthy, spicy and citrussy aroma of grapefruit, pine needles, orange peel, red apple, dried ginger, black pepper, nutmeg, wormwood, tonic water, old cheese, fried chicken, cigarette tobacco, lavender soap, bourbon, bark, mango, papaja, paprika, meat broth, strawberry... One of those luxurious ales with an aroma so complex I could sniff it for hours. In the mouth, an explosion of exotic, spicy and sweet fruits, supported by an utterly refreshing and ’cleansing’ citrussy sourishness and spiciness, medium strong, minerally and slightly sourish carbonation, resinous mouthfeel, then making way for a deep, smooth caramelly and nutty maltiness overcome by the expected strong, dry and extremely long hop bitterness, earthy, leafy, peppery, cheesy, citrussy and so complex, but still remaining elegant and not too ’corrosive’; retronasal, almost liquorice-like spiciness and some warming alcohol is present in the background but only for structure and not obnoxious at all. One of the greatest IPAs I had so far, so satisfying, quenching and refreshing... "California dreaming" on a cold, windy and dark winter night. Wonderful!
