Every year we anxiously await the warmer months to unleash this Double IPA, the summer edition of our Yulesmith Seasonals. The flavor imparts orange, grapefruit, and tangerine hop notes with earthy, spicy, and resinous pine undertones. A sturdy malt backbone balances out the profound hop bitterness to create a refreshingly assertive and vibrant beer that offers an unapologetically bold expression of fresh American hops.
Summer Yulesmithís citrusy aroma pairs well with many Mexican and Thai dishes, while its bitterness complements the sweetness of rich pork dishes like BLTs or spare ribs. Brawny, intensely flavored cheeses like Danish blues and aged white cheddars are also an effective foil to the aggressive flavor profile of this Imperial IPA.
Serve in a Pint at 45-50*F.

22 oz bottle: Pours a perfect honey amber hue. Lofty billowing peach coloured head, mostly lasting, leaving sheets of lace. Nose of apricots, vanilla, cherry, big citrus, perfumey, floral radiant hops. Chewy pale malts provide firm structered backbone for a total onslaught of hops from every direction. Alcohol is evident in dry warming finish. All grapefruit, pine, sticky lingering hops. Quite a nice brew I say. Thank you ALeSmith for rockin your brews out east hey!

Bottle-poured golden color with huge white head. Aroma-WOW!!, fresh piney hops, its xmas in july! Taste is sweet and spicey. Has lemony/pine up front with excellent sweet malt on palate with mildly biiter finish. Mouthfeel is perfect, smooth with nice carbonation. Overall an excellent beer. Reminds me more of a regular ipa and not a double. Not sure ibuís but cant be over 100.

Bottle. Pale amber with a white head. Aroma is earthy and spicy with grapefruit and pine, a surprising vanilla tone. Medium bodied, carbonation is highish, a little higher than Iíd like. Not very sweet with fairly plain pale malty flavours, no caramel. Lots of citrus flavours, earthy and a little peppery at the end. Spices go well there with the dry and firmly bitter finish. No great depth to it, but that dry, almost stern finish more than makes up for it. Would be better for summer, but the seasons donít work that way.

My recommendation is to try this a couple times... In various social settings. Perhaps itís the name and a self fulfilling prophecy, but the beer takes on the "holiday" you enjoy it in. Whether itís a holiday in the summer with neighbors and side walk chalk or an obscure bicentennial celebrating the birth of unicycles, the enjoyment factor directly hinges on your commitment to the festivities. First time trying it... I was invested with great friends and a monumental night. Second time... Same great friends and a great time... But the beer lost itís superiority. An original 4.7 was taken down to a 3.8. So to this I say... íTis the season... sometimes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Starts with fresh citrus, grapefruit and tangerines. Taste follows with the same and a bit more smooth bitterness. Finish is long lasting and clean.

A nice orange color with a two finger off white head. Aroma is citrus, piney, some tropical fruits and a slight sweetness. Taste is citrus and piney with a hint of alcohol in the end. A good one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle picked up from Julioís in MA. Pour was pale golden, good head and excellent lacing. Bready aroma with some citrus. This is really malty, yet not heavy and a moderate hop backbone. Hops are a complex blend of citrus, resin and earthiness. Fairly well balanced. Havenít had the winter version recently enough to compare. :( Another enjoyable brew from AleSmith.

Bomber. Pours a beautiful golden color. Thick, dense, pillowy head leaves some substantial lacing. Aromas of grapefruit and pine resin abound. Taste follows with pine resin and grapefruit showing heavily. A bit sweet with the malt, but the lingering bitterness makes up for that. Medium body with a dry bitter finsh. Just a bit of alcohol making its presence known. Hop forward West Coast DIPA.

Bomber packaged 05/01/14. Must try fresher some time and re-rate, cuz yeah, this be oxidized. It also has diacetyl. Dammit! Pours clear amber with a frothy white head. Appearance is absolutely beautiful. Can tell it used to be hoppy, but all thatís left is some bitter cardboard. And butter. The hops may have covered up the diacetyl when it was fresh, but now itís very apparent. Not too happy right now.

22oz bottle from Downer Wine and Spirits. Pours a clear amber color with a big white head and some lacing. Aroma is hoppy, orange, tangerine, some pine. Medium on the palate with soft carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, bread, nutty, bitter pine hops, some grapefruit, with a dry, bitter finish. Very nice.

Pours a light golden-yellow, with middling head. Aroma is very sweet-- bready, malty, fruity. Flavor has a ton of bitter, piney hops in the forefront, with citrus flavors, bready/malty sweetness and a touch of alcohol/booziness. Very nice DIPA.
