Every year we anxiously await the warmer months to unleash this Double IPA, the summer edition of our Yulesmith Seasonals. The flavor imparts orange, grapefruit, and tangerine hop notes with earthy, spicy, and resinous pine undertones. A sturdy malt backbone balances out the profound hop bitterness to create a refreshingly assertive and vibrant beer that offers an unapologetically bold expression of fresh American hops.
Summer Yulesmith’s citrusy aroma pairs well with many Mexican and Thai dishes, while its bitterness complements the sweetness of rich pork dishes like BLTs or spare ribs. Brawny, intensely flavored cheeses like Danish blues and aged white cheddars are also an effective foil to the aggressive flavor profile of this Imperial IPA.
Serve in a Pint at 45-50*F.

Bottle. Burning waffles feature prominently in the aroma, with lingering lemon laced pine cones. Rich malty body, well-balanced bitterness, a delectable IPA that could easily pass for a non-imperial version--that is to say, the bitterness is not overdone. Great all around.

Bottle from Bierkompass.de. Dark golden to amber, clear body, with a big, creamy, slightly beige head, that leaves a lot of lacing. Lovely aroma of pine, grapefruit, lots of tropical fruits, peach, biscuit, honey, slight alcohol. Taste with about the same aromas, also some nice tea notes and suprisingly smooth. Mouthfeel is medium, slick, with a medium carbonation and it finishes pretty smooth, medium bitter, dry, with lemon zest, pine, fruit notes and also some sweet malts. Overall just amazing how smooth this is for an Imperial IPA! Perfect balance, lovely and complex hop notes and with a delicious, smooth malt backbone. Close to a perfect DIPA and completely worth the high ratings!

So this is awesome. Pours a sunny orange with sticky lacing. Aromas are citrus and tropical fruit and sweet malts. Flavors are sweet and malty with a nice citrus hop finish. A really good beverage.

Clear amber color with rich white foam. Bottle conditioned. Hoppy aroma, very fruity, with grapefruits, orange and pineapple, and sweet malts on the background as well. Taste is very hoppy, full of flavour, with tropical fruits, sweet malts and a bit of pine and resin. Bitter aftertaste, dry finish. Really nice Double IPA.

Look: pours a bright orange. White head. Ver clear. Smell: citrus fruit. Tangerines. Oranges. Very hop forward. Tropical fruits. Taste: tangerines. Lemons. Orange peel. Feel: very dry. Nice IIPA. Medium carbonation. Overall: good beer. Love the aroma. Wish the taste had more tropical fruit not just citrus. First drank: home 9/1/14

Clear beer, surprisingly--good lacing, stable head. More bitter than aromatic, lacks malt backbone, there’s plenty of strength though. Good tasty beer, but a little underwhelming given the hype.

Bottle (22 Oz): pours somewhat cloud golden. Nice white head that diapers. Nice lacing. Smells and tastes of grapefruit. Hops. A little bitterness in the end. Bottled nearly 4 months ago so may not be the freshest

Bottle. Pours a transparent amber with a thin layer of cream colored head. Aroma of malts and hops. Taste of citrus and bitterness and malts. A nice balance.

From a bottle just over 3 months old. Would like to find a fresher sample next May/June. Pours a hazy light copper with lasting white head and great lacing. Aroma is fruity, floral, and herbal. Taste is malt-balanced at first, getting more assertively bitter with grapefruit in the end. Sweet and herbal aftertaste, and comes across overall as a spiced IPA. This is solid overall, even if it’s not my ideal IPA flavor profile This must be better fresh to be a Top 20 Double IPA. It’s good, but not outstanding.

Pours a hazy golden with a pillowy head which disappears in good time, lacing the glass the entire way.....aroma is sweet malt, piney, citrus near grapefruit......taste is well carbonated with a solid mouthfeel with grapefruit, sweet malt, slightly earthy and tailing off with slight metallic taste. Slight oiliness on the lips, which is not terribly desirable.....all in all a well built double.
