During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber color with a rather huge off-white head on it. Nose smells red, with a lot of grassiness to it over top of some underlying toasting. Taste is a bit bitter with a hint of toast in there, though it tastes a bit old like the hops have turned. OK, but would be better fresher.

A deep amber body with a mild haziness. The off-white head is huge, fluffy and lasts forever. Nose has some resin, tropical fruits and loads of sweet caramel. Taste is quite sweet with a nice bitter finish that just keeps holding on. Carbonation is on the high side with lots of large bubbles. Palate is rich and syrupy but not too sticky. This really warms you up nicely but the alcohol does not feel too intrusive. Very well balanced and perfectly suited for cold seasons. Reminds a lot of the Sierra Nevada Celebration ale.

Barwa: czerwona, klarowna. Piana jasno kremowa, drobno pęcherzykowa, ładnie oblepiająca szkło. Wysycenie średnie. Aromat: wyraźnie chmielowy (cytrusowy, żywiczny), nieco mniej słodowy i karmelowy. Bardzo przyjemny i zachęcający. Smak: słodowość z chmielową kontrą. Wyczuwalne nuty owocowe, lekka alkoholowość, która wspólnie z goryczką pozostaje na języku. Piwo to można by spokojnie traktować jako czerwoną, imperialną IPA.

This beer is stunning. I’ve had few beers where the alcohol is so well hidden and all you taste is the incredible love that went into making this beer. Pours an iced tea color with foamy off white head. Great corn syrup and sweet citrus aromas. Sweet syrupy flavors with the perfect amount of hops at the end. Smooth and impeccable.

Look: Pours with large, creamy top, big bubbles, off-white (light brown/mocha hue) head. Good, sticky, slow retention, leaves a thick, creamy top layer, good amount of lacing. Clear, dark, brown, bloody amber. Looks good.

Smell: Fruity, mostly citrus (dissected parts of grapefruit and tangerine) and pine. Caramel, toast, pale malt sweetness - godly combination with fruity hops, makes it a very juicy fresh. Also some floral and sea algae notes.

Taste: Dissected citrus (from the zest to the body of grapefruits and tangerines) go into lovely, smooth, medium sweet caramel, biscuit malt backbone (with very light toast, roast, burned sugar). Ends with clear medium bitterness, mostly grapefruit, zest and some pine. Also some malt backbone sweetness comes back into play at the end. The bitterness stays for a while in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, good smooth carbonation, very drinkable. Leaves a dry finish. Alcohol is nowhere to detect.

Overall: It’s the balanced play with strong malty backbone and fruity hops that does it - brings out the fresh succulent flavor and feeling. Not too complex, but rich enough to enjoy throughout. Well done.

A lovely imperial red. Was pleasantly surprised that this is not another "Christmas cake" seasonal ale. The well balanced hop and malt nose carries through to the taste profile. Fruity hops, bready malt with a nice touch of caramel, hints of nutmeg and cloves all work together for a great winter beer.
