COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green.

Happy Hanukkah y’all. Poured from a bomber into a pint glass. Plenty of sticky head on this one. Lacing like that fake crap my goyisha relatives spray on their Christmas trees (well not really). Speaking of Christmas trees, this beer smells like one. Plenty of pine and misc. spices in here. Mouthfeel is thick and fizzy/barfy. Oy! Taste is of spices of an undefined origin. Grapefruit, orange, citrus, pine, etc. A very good beer. One of the better red ales I’ve had. Like a west coast red ale with Tupac attitude. I’ll grab one again next year.

Golden brown with a yellowish head that leaves behind some lacing. Aroma is very strong hops - pine, toffee. Slight slickness on the palate. Taste is marmalade, caramel. A little too hoppy for my liking.

I wanted to love this given the very high existing ratings, and I did like it very much. But despite great components from nose to finish, it didn’t quite all come together for me. Sort of meandering. Still, a very good beer.

2011 Bomber from Capones. Dark amber with a biege head that lasts a decent amount of time. Well balanced hoppy aroma, Some pine resin but not overwhelming, semi-sweet malt, dark caramel, some citrus. Full bodied, slightly sweet but bitterness begins and just keeps on growing yet stays well balanced, well carbonated, quite smooth, can’t believe how much it dries out the palate, amazing mouthfeel. This is one damn tasty beer.

Pours a nice amber hue with an off white head. Smells very malty, but also highly hopped. Tasted about the same, but had a real nice burn for the winter warmer effect.

Nice hopped up red. This one has a very malty side compared to the summer, but it works nicely. The caramel and hay of the malts work nice with the still abundant amount of hops.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2012 From the 12/2011 3R6P tasting. This is the first beer from this brewery that has disappointed me. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a murky caramel-brown color with a trace tan head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was dryish and dusty with vague mixed spice and a touch of cookie dough. The flavor was tart nut and lemon with a sour caramel presence and faint tobacco. The finish was long and dry with notes of nut, lemon and caramel lingering. Medium body. Eh.

22oz bottle from Pinnochio’s. Pours a deep red color with a white head. Aroma is hoppy, both pine and citrus. Medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, cereal, with a nice, bitter hop finish. Alcohol is well hidden. A very well balanced beer.
