3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle poured into a tulip (this bottle says 8.5% abv). Pours reddish amber with thick off-white colored head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt with a hint of hop spice. Taste is big bitter caramel malt with notes of pine and grapefruit hops and faint burnt notes on the finish. Rich, and slightly thick, although not syrupy. Very tasty, although lacking the malty sweetness that most other big Imperial Reds have. A big winter beer nonetheless, and delicious.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle from Total Wine in Tucson, Arizona, served in a stem glass. Pours clear reddish toffee with a large tan head that fades to a thin cover and laces well. On the nose there are notes of grapefruit and resin, along with toffee and pine. The flavour is balanced between big herbal, resinous hops and toasty, toffeeish malts; the hops win by a margin. The finish is long and bitter with a slight pepperishness. On the palate, it is medium in body with a dryish texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a nice toffeeish ale with huge resinous hops. Tasty, and very AleSmith. 2012-12-30

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a fairly clear deep amber with a thick off white head. Floral hop aroma. Grassy hop notes over a malt backbone with hints of spruce. Bitter finish.

I’m fairly new the IRA-style. Been drinking, and rating, mostly IPAs and DIPAs. This is a nice counter-balance to that style. Almost a complete 180 from why a love the hop-bombs so much, but this is one of the best beers I’ve had recently.
Pours a nice deep copper/red color, with a huge thick off-white head. Aroma is mostly sweet malts, but hints of floral hops and alcohol balance out the sweetness. Taste is phenomenal - hits the tongue and wants to be sweet, but its just a rich, balanced nicely hopped ale. Well done.

Big bottle. Aroma a very nice, nearly perfect balance between sweetness and hoppiness, lots of malt. Taste malty and nice with a round and full body. Spicy, and very nice bitterness.
