Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

Originally rated on 3/22/2006, but I have to move my rating now that YuleSmith has split.

Pours a thick, deep copper, mostly flat, topped with a rocky, ecru head that lasts and laces. Amazingly delicious, multi-layered aromas, starting with baked bread, becoming sweet muffins with citrusy tangerine & prune, coriander & clove, lily & pine, ending with alcohol as it warms. Incredible. Big malts temper big hops. Thick & syrupy, I wished for a bit of carbonation to help liven the mouth and further spread the flavors of rich caramel, sweet citrics, raisin and milk chocolate. I could only find two things wrong with YuleSmith... an effervescent kick would complexify the palate; and better availability in the Chicagoland area would be a big plus!

Pours a nice red color with an off white head. Aroma is of nice citrusy hops followed by sweet malts and a tad of alcohol. Flavor is just so smooth. Porbably one of the best mixtures of hops and malts in an ASA that iv’ve ever had. I liked this better than the summer one.

22oz bottle. Lovely copper red color with a huge foamy head. Great balance of big hops and malt flavors. Has a subtle sweetness of caramel and fruits. This would be awesome to drink during the cold months of the holiday season.

Since I am missing a local brewfest tonight I decided to break out a good one from my cellar. Nice looking reddish stuff with thick homebrew head , massive lacing that tells a history, and thickest residue I’ve seen at that. Malty, sweet (think sugar babies) plus pine forest all at once in the nose. Nice indeed. I am now enjoying the malty yet hoppy palate. Can only imagine the power of the summer version cause this stuff packs a kick. Very nice!

[1506-20080704] 1pt6floz bottle. Spicy pine resin aroma with dark heavy wood malt notes. Murky, dark brown amber body with a long-lasting foamy almond head and big white floaties. Spicy pine resin continues in the flavour with lots of heavy hops. Medium-full body. Interesting and fragrant!

Bottle: Glowing orange pour with a wispy white head that thinly covers the brew. Freshly-squeezed citrus flavor, very cleanly hopped. Velvety mouthfeel, only about medium-bitterness, but still manages a very full flavor. Delicious.
