Welcome to the holidays! Double Red IPA arrives each year as the weather turns cool and our cravings for winter warmers begin. This Imperial Red Ale has an intense hop aroma with well-balanced caramel malt sweetness. The intense American hoppiness builds on the substantial malt backbone to deliver a full-flavored beer with a ton of complexity.

This is another one of those beers where you can’t quite put your finger exactly on what excites you about it but you recognize its excellence right away. Extremely well balanced. The aroma is full of resinous piney hops that translate directly to the palate. The malt bill is substantial, biscuity and chewy and it feels like there are some extra holiday spice thrown in for good measure (maybe I’m just losing my mind though). Solid!

Bottle as Aesmith Double Red IPA. Big foamy off-white head that lasts. Strong pine and spruce aroma. Taste--Very bitter, mostly pine with a grapefruit undercurrent. Malt base is toffee and caramel and really sets the stage nicely. Finishes long and dry. Paired with Italian sausages.

Shared bomber kindly donated by Sally, the distribution rep., as the currently renamed & labelled Double Red IPA, poured to snifters, showing a clear, deep copper color, with a presentable layer of off white head foam, and good cling to the dots & dashes of lacing. The nose was dank, then citrus, with a hint of cherry/berry that I may have convinced myself followed the appearance, light resin, and sweet malt. Medium bodied, with average carbonation, the taste added to the aroma notes, a decent citrus & rind bitterness that pleasantly lingered. Tasty, but didn’t come off as a DIPA, imo, which is the brewery’s updated style listing.

Backlog rating. Keg at BD Shoreditch tap takeover, London. It pours a clean copper color with medium off-white head. Aroma is rich and bold with sweet caramel malts and fruity hops, with mango resin and toffee. Taste has more big bold sweet fruit salad, caramel and resin. Medium to full bodied with good carbonation. Overall, tasty

Amber with an off white ehad - good hop aroma with fruits and some hints of pine - Good malt back with some caramel and then the hops comes and gives a very good fruity flavour, and there is hints of pine with a nice bitter finish - The caramle malt goes inot the finish with a nice fruity bitterness that almost goes dry in the end, and some hints of warming alcohol comes through in the end - This was real good

Great balanced aromas of hops and malts. Red pour off white head, flavor of mostly malts then pretty big hop bitterness in on finish. R ally nice change from typical San Diego hop brews.

Chestnut-maroon with a quarter-inch of toasted-marshmallow head, medium-fine, moderate rate of decay. Aroma is moderate clean caramel, floral light sap hope flavor. Honey-nut Chex. Body is medium-heavy weight, syrupy, slightly oily, medium carbonation, on the coarse side, moderate-to-big burn. Flavor is candy sweetness, resinous pine hop notes, a touch of floral leading into considerable sappy bitterness. Overall, a nice ASA, simple and clean, highlight is the nice floral hop notes, especially in the aroma.

Good, but a bit of meh at the same time. First, burns way too hot. Second, way too resiny for the ABV (8.5%).
