Bottle. This one is a new 2007, marked 8.5% abv on the bottle. Pours a medium to darker brown with thin tan head. Aroma on this is lightly malty and heavily hoppy, with pine, spruce, resin. Flavor is on the hoppy side with only light bitterness due to a big sweeter maltiness underneath. Some caramel but not too much, some raisin and fig, but lightly, some breadiness. Bitterness comes the way of grapefruit and some faint citrus accents. Tastes like a normal west coast ipa with a fat dose of crystal malt. It’s good. Alesmith does good on all their brews and this is no exception. I might get around to rating them instead of drinking them one day.

Dec 3, 2008 Thanks to doubleo for the bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown with a off white head, decent lacing. Aromas of pine, caramel malt, and some alcohol. Flavors are similar caramel malts, and spicy hops. This is a big yet wonderfully balanced beer. I really enjoyed this bottle. Thanks again doubleo!

Dec 2, 2008 On tap at The Neighborhood in San Diego. Dark ruby brown. Spicy and grassy aroma, quite herbal. Sweet dark caramel, lots of sweet spice, crisp capsicum-like bitter finish. A bit of an odd choice of hops, but it works!

Nov 28, 2008 Bottle. Pours red with thick off white head. Aroma is pine, malt, grass. Flavor is well balanced with malts leading the way, then citrus in the back. Very smooth finish.

The beer pours a murky deep crimson with a frothy beige head with thick soapy lacing.
Strong earthy citrus, and floral notes with huge amounts of sweet malt in the nose.
The first thing that hit you is the bitterness. Then comes the malt and citrus.
Huge body and a very chewy mouthfeel. Very warming. A very tasty and well made beer. Yet another reason to look forward to the holiday season!

Nov 27, 2008 22oz bottle. Dark red color with a full off white head. Very nice hop aroma, slightly grassy. Good flavor, nicely balanced and very flavorful. Great brew.
