Limited to 2009 bottles. A porter, to which rapadou (Carribean unrefined cane sugar from Haiti) was added (but not caramelized rapadou as in the Rapadou Porter) and aged for two months in Virginia Gentleman bourbon barrels. It is a complex porter, to which the flavors of vanilla and a little bourbon have been added as a result of the aging process.

22oz bottle (2011 - #4488) received in a trade from Doodler in 2011
Pours near black with a medium sized tan head and some lacing. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, oak and leather. Flavors of roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla, woody with a nice warming alcohol bitterness in the finish
Very nice and smooth, this could have aged a few more years and still be tasty. Lots of bourbon and vanilla.

A big thanks to Brad for sending me this. Nose is smooth bourbon, chocolate, roast, some light coffee, a hint of vanilla, and some dark fruit. Excellent. Flavors line up pretty similarly. Very nice.

Bottle to glass. Pours a very deep brown to black color with a thin rim of creamy tan head. Aroma is lots of chocolate, lightly roasted malts. Flavor is chocolatey sweetness, vanilla, with a hint of after dinner wine booze. Medium body with a strong lingering chocolatey sweetness. Excellent beer!

Damn nice aroma, dark chocolate, vanilla, and sweet bourbon.

Flavor is chocolate pudding, vanilla oak, hints of anise and a nice subtle bourbon heat after the sip. Coffee with sugar. Texture is creamy with the body leaning on the lighter side of medium. The bourbon balances the rich malt very nicely. Quite easy to drink for such a big beer.

Really nicely crafted.

Pitch black and oily. no head. Smells amazing! Loads of vanilla, toffee, caramel and bourbon. Wow. sweet. loads of raisin and grapes. very very sweet. vanilla out the butt. It’s gonna be hard to finish a bomber though. best shared with a few people.

Oh wow a full flavor porter with a decent palate that I actually am impressed with! Finally a porter worth drinking. Lots if bourbon and roasty flavors that makes his porter almost drink like a stout. Which brings me to the question I always ask myself when I convince myself to give porters another chance. Why not a stout?

Moderate Sweet vanilla aroma. Slight head fades quickly. Light on the mouthful. Slight smokiness, hints of bourbon, fairly strong vanilla. Sweet and bitter chocolate hints on the after taste.

Well done, and well barreled. Bourbon is clearly present in initial aroma but doesn’t take over the beer or dominate. A touch less and it would be perfect. Pours black with good head and lacing. Finishes bitter and a little sweet - maybe that’s the Hatian rapadou. Some booze present as well, and roast malt, dark chocolate. Tap at Rustico.

I swear its everyday now. I come into work, place my rotting left index finger on the scanner to punch in, hoping the damn machine still recognizes my print after weeks of abuse and then only if I don’t flunk it and get locked out I look around despondently at all of the highly sought after brew left in the office. On this particular day it happened to be Alewerks Brewmasters Reserve Bourbon Barrel Porter. I picked up a bottle for two reasons. 1. The price wasn’t obscene. 2. I have tried porters before, wasn’t a huge fan but thought I owed it another attempt. Pours “oblivion” black. No head, thin lacing in weak halo along the perimeter. Instant dark burnt chocolate on the nose. Delicious first sip of rich coffee, caramel, chocolate and raison. All of the rich flavors do a great job at downplaying the ABV. Alewerks is quickly becoming one of the elite craft breweries out there.

Bottle at home. Thanks a bunch, Mike! Pours black with a small beige head. The aroma is vanilla, oak, sweet chocolate, light roast and a bunch of dried fruit. The flavor has notes of dried fruit, roasted malt, chocolate, bourbon (also the alcohol notes) and wood. The alcohol is a bit too harsh in the finish but it's very tasty indeed! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
