COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An Imperial Porter brewed with a Haitian sugar called Rapadou. Rapadou is a traditionally processed cane sugar that lends a great toffee caramel flavor to our 9% ABV Porter. Watch for this one aged in oak barrels in the future. Limited edition of 2007 bottles.

22oz bottle pours inky brown black with a finger of tan head. Nose is rich earthy dirt, bark, spice, coffee, molassess sweetness, cocoa, bitter burnt chocolate, roast. Palate is silky soft and holds all the complexities of the nose with a nice earthy sweetness which compliments the dark fruity spices without becoming cloying. Finish is spice cocoa, ash, dark fruit, sweet molasses. Very impressed and would love to see what barrel aging could do to this.

Another thanks to The_Epeeist for bringing me a bomber of this. Pours deep brown with a medium creamy head. Nice lacing. Aroma of espresso, roasted malts and toffee. Rich coffee taste thatís a little bit sweet with the toffee, but very nice overall.
Iím assuming that much of the toffee sweetness is from the rapadou. Itís definitely something to try.

Thanks to MuenchenerKindl for this great extra. Bottle 462 poured into my Maudite glass produced a big tan head that trailed of to a thick lace. This ale had one of the darkest body’s I have seen in a while. I guess its time to get used to them for the fall Big chocolate and roasted malts notes as well as almost a brown sugar smell must be the Rapadou. The flavors of roasted malts dark chocolate and smoke hit me first then a little sweetness sneaks in as well. Very thick mouth feel creamy in some ways not much carbonation. Flavors get much better as it warms I am enjoying this bomber quite nicely. I will have no problem finishing this one off but not a session brew by any means. Thanks again Tom. Edit I think the age of the bottle must be taming the alcohol because it is not noticeable at all till it hits you

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2009 bomber #1229 from grape & gourmet. pours an oily thick, deep, dark brown with a thin, dark tan head and a great ring of lace. aroma is excellent with huge notes of brown sugar and toffee, dark fruit notes of fig and prune, and touches of chocolate and wood. flavor is great as well with big, dark roasted malts, sweet toffee, slightly sour dark fruit notes, bitter chocolate, and a touch of smoke and coffee on the finish. palate is full bodied and silky smooth with great carbonation and well integrated alcohol. overall, a damn nice imperial porter.

22 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet (bottle 1169 of 2007). Pours black with a tan head. Dark fruit, chocolate, and brown sugar aroma. Slick mouthfeel, but a slightly chalky texture as well. Tastes of prune and raisin which fades into bakerís chocolate and smoke. Lingering chalky dark chocolate flavor; alcohol barely noticeable. A great beer.

bottle courtesy of ksurkin, thanks! pours black with a nice spongy brown head that fades quickly. aroma is very sweet and earthy, lots of spices and vanilla, hints of bourbon even in this one. the taste is cloying sweetness at first, bit the finish and aftertaste make up for it with a really nice blend of flavors. the aftertaste is dry and bitter butter, which is nice after the cloying. nice progression of sweet to bold to bitter, all with a meduim full creamy body. good stuff, goes down easy.

bottle 314/2007 courtesy of mr. cbk on 3/21/2010. dark orange tinted brown with a small tannish head. the nose is full on brown sugar ... mixed with roast, chocolate, vanilla, coffee-like toasted nuttiness and a touch of hoppy spice. the flavor follows the same route... brown sugar, vanilla, cream, cocoa, coffee, warming spices and peppery with a mild bitterness on the finish. it is surprisingly quite dry. the medium body is crisp and creamy. that combo makes it very drunkable... 8/4/8/4/17/4.1

Date stamp of 6 2 14. 22 oz bomber into a tulip. Pours a pitch black with a finger of clinging khaki foam. Nose is roast, chocolate, sweet vanilla, faint dark fruits and some caramel. Taste is a nice balance of light roasted coffee, chocolate, sweet vanilla and some earthy toffee. Creamy body but doesnít linger forever. This is a very good porter.
