355mL from the cheese shop in colonial Williamsburg. Pours a deeper cola, clear, Rockier tan foam. Good lace. Nose is sweet cola, milk chocolate, pumpkin, cookie. Taste is quite bitter, soapy, red apple, some chocolate, coffee, cookie, tootsie roll. Not bad. Fiancé rating : 3.4

Near clear amber brown pour with large khaki head. Nose is distinct cocoa and coffee grounds. Flavor is malty toffee caramel, biscuit, smokey, earthy tobacco. Almost a malty bitterness on the finish. Some drying hops for balance. I certainly wouldn’t mistake it for sweet. A little watery thin with moderately low carbonation. Pretty good.

Draft at Colonial Williamburg. Pours hazy dark brown with minimal off-tan head. Nose was earthy, bready vienna malt, mild cacao, nuts, and backup hops, Tasted rich, with an earthy nutty malt up front, some mid-palate cacao, and a smooth finish. This beer matched really well with the cramped and old-fashioned confines of the tavern we were in, and really seemed to fit the period well. It took me back in time.

Draft at Brewery. Poured a medium-brown color with a slightly tan head. Aroma was nutty, caramel, toffee. Flavor was a touch of caramel, nut, toffee was there. Nice earthy notes and some grain in there. Pretty tasty.

Aroma of coffee, bran flakes, and unmalted roasted barley. Cloudy brown, thin yellow head. Robust, roasted barley flavor, kibble and coffee, grainy.. Good with berry pie.

The clear highlight for my wife and I of a very good tasting session. Rich, complex brown ale. Nothing strong, just a mix of lots of flavors...leather, maple syrup, something nutty. I don't usually rate samples, but I want to remember to try this again if/when possible.

Growler from Alewerks. Very dark, opaque brown cola colored pour. Tall, thick tan head. Aroma is strong toffee, caramel notes, molasses, and dark bread. Taste is chocolate covered nuts, caramel, light toffee, molasses, dark bread, toasted grains, and earthy hops. Body is medium with a soft, creamy carbonation. Ends with a touch more bitterness, chocolate, strong nuttiness, earthy hops, caramel, toasted bread, dark bready notes, soft grains and molasses.
