Pumpkin Ale is pumpkin pie in a bottle. Skip the pie after dinner and just have a couple of these! An American Amber Ale flavored with all those fall spices we love!

One of the best pumpkin ales Iíve tasted so far! This offering pours a light amber color with a small off-white head. The head doesnít leave much lacing around the glass, though. I got a ton of pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg in the nose. The body was extremely smooth and drinkable. The flavors were really delicious, with notes of pumpkin pie, pie crust, toasted bread, nutmug, cinnamon and a good amount of sweet maltiness. This really was like eating a slice of pumpkin pie. Iíve tasted a lot of other pumpkin ales, but this one wasnít so heavy on the pumpkin or the spices. The balance of the flavors was just right. Williamsburgís was more balanced and more well-rounded than a lot of others Iíve sampled. If you get the chance, try this pumpkin beer this fall. You wonít be disappointed.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2010 Bottle. Strong copper colored pour with a short, dense off-white head. Aroma is strong pumpkin pie notes, spices (nutmeg and cinnamon), sweet malt, and candied notes. Taste is pumpkin pie with whipped cream, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, sweet malts, candied yams, and brown sugar. Body is medium and creamy with a dense carbonation. Ends with more pumpkin pie, brown sugar, candied yams, clove, light nutmeg and ginger, with hints of vanilla and light caramel. Very tasty stuff! A winner!

Cask at Green Leafe on Scotland Street on 10-01-2010. Orange copper pour with only sparse bubble for head. Per Geoff at AleWerks and per his tweet, this is in a real wooden cask. Aroma is gingerbread, pumpkin pie, sweet malt, brown sugar and spices. Taste is pure pumpkin pie in a gingerbread crust with light cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and brown sugar. Body is medium but with soft carbonation and a pleasant slickness, thanks to the cask conditioning. Finishes with more pumpkin pie, gingerbread, spices and brown sugar. I had three pints of this on cask. So, yeah, I liked it!

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2009 12 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet. Pours brownish-orange with a thin off-white head. Strong pumpkin pie aroma as well as cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. Noticeable cinnamon flavor upfront with pumpkin pie flavor underneath. If you are a fan of pumpkin beers this is the one you have been waiting for. In my opinion Southern Tier Pumpking is too sweet whereas this avoids that. Iím amazed at how much flavor is packed into this beer. Williamsburg AleWerks just may be one of the best kept secrets around right now. This is another fantastic addition to their lineup.

12 oz. bottle - dark orange, basically flat; pumpkin pie, squash, spice and nutmeg; soft, full pumpkin pie flavors; pie crust, some spice, lemon; texture is on the thin side with crackers; lovely flavor profile with fruit, sweetness, pumpkin spice; has all the vegi qualities, but is plenty sweet and spicy; very nice

12oz from suzygreenberg. Copper clear amber with thin white ring of a head. Big cinnamon, nutmeg, grahm, pumpkin, banana, bubblegum...very much a thick pumpkin pie nose. All of the aromas from the nose are happening in the flavor. So balanced and such a wonderful beer. The little bit of banana jus works to tie everything together. Last year the best pumpkin beer I ever had was ST pumpking...this year, this is it.

Pours with little foam, a deep brown color but not opaque. Aroma for me was almost non-existant. Slight notes of nutmeg, malt, spice. Tastes extremely good; like pumpkin pie in a glass. Very sweet and spicy, and balances that well with pumpkin flavor. Mouthfeel is full bodied, thick, average carbonation and a long finish. All in all, a fantastic pumpkin ale. Up there with the best.

355ml bottle. Iím very excited to be trying my first pumpkin beer, a style that just doesnít exist in Europe. Hopefully Williamsburg AleWerksí offering will give me a good starting point. It pours out a mostly clear copper shade and instantly I start to get a sense of pumpkin and spice mix on the nose. I was apprehensive about the taste, knowing that raw pumpkin isnít something I have fond memories of, but thankfully the wonderful spice notes of ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg are the dominant feature. Pumpkin instead lurks in the background. Itís quite sweet and the alcohol is never felt. Note to European brewers: start making these... please!

Bottle @ Steveís Foco. Thanks Steve. Pours a clear dark orange appearance with an off white head. Spicy, caramel, big vanilla, nicely toasted pumpkin aroma. Super nice, toasted pumpkin, light apple, caramel, vanilla, mild nutmeg flavor. Quite nice.

Bottle - Gold pour with an orangish hue. Very little head and it is gone in a flash. Nose of all the normal spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, all spice, etc...) Taste follows the nose. Not cloying but just the right amount of sweetness. Probably number 2 or 3 for this style IMO. Great stuff.
