Brown Ale at its best. Brewed with two-row, crystal, Gambrinus honey, and chocolate malt, and hopped with Cascade to balance towards the sweeter side. Enjoy it with your meal. Brown ales originated in England and were the staple ale of 17th century English taverns. They were usually brewed on site, or by a local widow or housewife. The Tavern model as community social, political, economic and judicial center of activity was repeated in colonial America, a tradition AleWerks supports.

Bottle. Was very surprised how good this one was. Dark brown in color with a very, light tan head. Aroma was a toasted malt, slightly chocolate smell. Taste was a very pleasant malty, toasted nut with hints of chocolate. Nice.

bottle @ Beer Run / Charlottesville VA --- Clear dark mahogany brown color, one-finger beige head, cobweb lace. Taste is nutty malt that stays solid through a mildly hopped swallow, moving smoothly to a medium finish. A simple brew with too much body, too much strength, too much nut to work well. It feels heavy and unbalanced to me. I can certainly drink it easily enough, but I wouldn’t ask for another.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Aroma- A very nice malt aroma with maybe an earthy undertone. Appearance- A dark brown ale with an off-white head. Taste-Has a strong malt flavor with a light bitterness at the end. Palate- Medium bodied with a well balanced mild carbonation. Overall- This is a really good beer. Doesn’t appear to have a wide distribution. if you can find it I would give it a try.

01.24.2014, bottle courtesy of James, his apt w/ Andy. Dark brown pour, red tint. Tiny head. Aroma nutty, flavor same with medium to high carbonation. Straight-forward but not too bad.

Dark lean copper brown pour with one finger of tan head. Nose is odd, very rustic and grainy with some bready sweetness and caramel notes. Kind of watery and weird/grainy in the flavor. Very earthy and rustic bready/toasted grain malt profile. Very light bodied and lean.

Dark brown pour from bottle. Loaded with Chewy malts and a very chocolatey finish for the style.
