2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 reebtogi (2159) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 21, 2012
341ml bottle pours a pale golden color with a small white head that leaves a few specks of lacing on the glass. Aroma is light toasted malts and mild floral hops. Taste is light malty sweetness with a moderate hoppy bitterness. Light body for the style and little carbonation. AK’s IPA is not even on par with a typical micro American Pale Ale, what a shame.
1.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20 Phatman (121) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 17, 2012
hmmm... it’s nice to give all beers a chance. No aroma to speak of, sweet and metallic. Pale straw coloured pour with thin, rapidly dissipating head. An unsurprisingly bland flavour that throws up no surprises. slightly bitter aftertaste that is reluctant to linger. Fizzy...
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 barcull (2) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 11, 2012 does not count
This is a typical offering from Canada’s large commercial breweries. The taste is so pedestrian that it leaves one wondering whether the breweries use one big vat and simply bottle and label with their own product. It all tastes the same!
Traditional IPA’s are distinctive in the flavour profile. They have a rich matly taste, balanced by a high hop aroma. A good example of the style is Fuller’s Bengal Lancer. Keith’s has none of the profile characteristics. The malt is undetectable and there is NO hop aroma. How it can call itself an IPA is beyond me.
The recipe for Keith’s is the following: 1. Put a bucket behind a horse, 2. Add yeast.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Powertrip (841) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 10, 2012
Pint purchased fro Chicago Chophouse in Calgary, AB on 05/10/2012. Colour: medium yellow with light traces of orange and low head. Nose: lots of malt and caramel swirls. Actually that’s about it. Taste: medium sweet, medium-light bitter, medium-light sour. Malty sweetness comes on strong but then slowly gives way to some mild grain-hop, finishing more on the grain side. Finally got around to rating this one after all these years. Average.

355ml can. This was the first beer I ever tried and probably the one that I’ve drank the largest quantity of over the years. Almost always my choice if I’m someplace that only has Labatt, Molson and/or Moosehead products as alternatives. I can’t even really describe it because it is too familiar; East of Quebec this stuff flows like water. My only real observation is that my satisfaction with a Keith’s is very inconsistent. Sometimes I love drinking it, other times I wonder how I ever did. Not sure if it is me or the beer. Overall, the best choice in Canada if all you can get is macros.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ronjustron (22) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 19, 2012
one of my favourite IPA’s from the Maritimes. Good colour, aroma & taste. The palate is good too, it goes down well and the aftertaste finishes nicely.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 worldbeertaste (613) - Lancashire, ENGLAND - APR 12, 2012
Pale golden/orange with a thin white head. Smells of sweet citrus, fruity peach apple and light grain and hops. Medium Grainy thin fizzy body. Taste of sweet fruity malt, corn with a light citrus and bitter yeast finish. I would never call this an IPA more like a lager. But still better than most Canadian regularly available beers.
1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20 kevinsenn (325) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - APR 7, 2012
Ignoring the fact that this is clearly not an IPA, this beer has other problems. Aroma and appearance are acceptable. But the taste... remember what beer (i.e., macro lagers) tasted like when you were really young? That’s what this beer tastes like now. It undoes years of "acquiring the taste" for beer. Metallic and coppery. Not recommended.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Tiger_08 (64) - Sarnia, Ontario, CANADA - APR 7, 2012
First consumed in large quantities on tap, followed by bottles but in 473ml can for review. Have been drinking this in bars for years not even aware what an ipa is supposed to be. If rated as a lager it would do ok but as an ipa not so good. No qualities of hops or bitterness in smell or taste. Pours clear golden yellow with white bubbly head that fizzes away to a ring. Slight lacing too slippery to hold onto glass for any length. Aroma is hard to pinpoint, sweet floral with sour lager fallout. Not as sweet as corn brewed beers but hints are there. Watery palate slightly oily lingering though. Sour aftertaste that is confusing. Would prefer bitter or hopsy aftertaste but nothing. Was good enough to get through school but I’ve graduated now.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Metalchopz (1427) - Quebec, CANADA - APR 4, 2012
Originally rated February 2005. Keith’s IPA has been brewed since 1820 in Nova Scotia, Canada. It pours a pale yellow colour with a nice foamy white head and some good lacing. Carbonation is quite active. The nose is of bread and some malt. Its taste is very smooth, mostly corn and... well not much else. Not much hop tasted, which means almost no bitterness. More of a pale ale then an IPA. I think this beer has changed a lot in the last few years. I remember it being stronger in taste. One of Canadians favorite alternative to Labatt Blue and Molson Canadian in bars. I prefer it in bottles, then in cans and got tired of it on draft.
