Alfa Hellenic Beer is a lager beer, with 5% alcohol content with it’s authentic Greek name and origin, that make it more familiar to Greeks and non-Greeks around the world. It is refreshing, easy to drink and brings to ones memory the authentic taste of Greece! Alfa’s unique light gold color and rich foam is the ultimate pleasure-maker. It is made of high quality natural ingredients (water, barley malt, hops and yeast) and its packaging is distinctive, with the bottle being a more modern version of the original Alfa bottle.

Enjoyed at Kalyvia on Danforth: Presents as a typical Eurolager - though fearing the worst, I find it free of adjuncts and the aroma fresh with no green-glass sulfuring effect. Very acceptable pale lager aroma has touch of pleasing floral noble hops. Very lightly acidic and this balances the sweetness. Good refresher.

Bottle. What distinguishes this from every other skunky bottle of expired hops and weak malt in a glass most suited for mineral water? Nothing.

Can. Light yellow with quickly fading white head. Some malt but I can’t find any hops. Pale, very pale experience :-(

Because of the green bottle, I was expecting the worst. No skunk flavor, so I enjoyed this light, basically flavorless lager.

(Canned, thanks Tomppa!) Clear golden with some floating particles, and a smallish, but quite tight head with decent lace. A bit cardboardy, sweetish aroma with mild acidity and some corny-toffeeish malt. Hints of alcohol, too. Sweetish, corny-malty and somewhat acidic flavor with at least some hops. Light-bodied, quite carbonated palate. Reminds me a bit of Russian lagers, only as a milder version. Drinkable, but not twice.

12 ounce bottle. I was at Seattle’s Saint Demetrios Greek Festival and decided to drink the native brew. I am not especially fond of lagers, but this was pretty good for what it was. Slightly sweeter than Heineken, with a better overall taste.

On draught at the Red Rose, Lindos, Rhodes, Greece. A passable drink with no inhesrent distinction. Think a slightly tastier Budwesier. Suited to warmer climes perhaps.

Bottle sampled on 6/15/07: Pours a transparent fizzy golden with a thin wispy white head. Standard pale lager aroma has a touch of floral noble hops. Body is fairly thin and lightly sweet with a decent bitter balance. Fairly refreshing but not much more than that.

Tasted 2007-08-18. Canned. Clear yellow. White head. I guess you can enjoy this cold, if you’re thursty and don’t have water; No particular off flavours. Well almost no flavours at all. The only positive thing I have left to say about this beer is, that it is in fact - a beer! I give it 8 in overall grade as a thank you for the times it has quenched my thurst in the hot greek weather. Enjoy!
