Alfa Hellenic Beer is a lager beer, with 5% alcohol content with it’s authentic Greek name and origin, that make it more familiar to Greeks and non-Greeks around the world. It is refreshing, easy to drink and brings to ones memory the authentic taste of Greece! Alfa’s unique light gold color and rich foam is the ultimate pleasure-maker. It is made of high quality natural ingredients (water, barley malt, hops and yeast) and its packaging is distinctive, with the bottle being a more modern version of the original Alfa bottle.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2005 The Athenian Brewery makes four beers, and all of them are pale lagers. Go figure. Anyways... this one is yellow with slow carbonation and a barely existing head that actually does some decent lacing. The aroma is grainy and sweet, belying the flavor which is much subtler in its malty sweetness with some mild hop bitterness in the finish. Now available in liquor stores, I’m sure this will show up in the local Greek restaurants... which is where I will drink it.

Hombre.......... cuesta menos de 40 cts de € no esperareis que sea una buena cerveza. Aunque tiene la cosa de ser griega. No creo que mucha gente (que no sea griega) tenga una cerveza de alli.

Alfa seems to have recently become available in the US for the first time. It’s surprisingly bitter, as I was expecting a bland international lager. I didn’t find it sweet at all, but rather crisp and dry, but above all, fairly bitter.

Bottled. Golden with a white head. Very sweet; almost sticky sweet. Cereal flavour with some hops to be found.

Bottled. Golden colour. Soft malty, with a tiny sweetness. Almost soapy mouthfeel. Not so much Co2 which is a good thing, in my opinion. Typical Balkan lager, I suppose.

Oh my - the complexities abound in this wild combination of sulfuric skunk juice and corn sugar madness! Well, it does smell pretty bad, but I firmly believe that it could actually be skunkier. Lighter golden colored body - this had very good lacing, actually. Body was medium but granular. Malty tastee with added sugar sweetness. "A" is for Alfa!

Clar gold colour with big fluffy head. No aroma, sweet malty sugar water. If I was in Greece i’d probably just stick to the oozo, as this beer is bad.

Bottle. Appearance was a white head with sparse lacing, transparent, carbonation, and a yellow hue. Could smell the skunkiness when the bottle was opened. Aroma was also malty. Flavor was sweet, malty and some hops. Tingly mouthfeel and somewhat dry. Light bodied beer. Not recommended.

500 mL bottle, somewhere under the Acropolis: clear yellow colour with a airy, straw aroma. Bubbly head. Thin, watery palate and slightly off flavours, though it was hard to notice while sitting on the rooftop sampling wonderful Greek food and staring at a building that is thousands of years old. Amazing that the Greeks have done some many amazing things, yet never figured out beer…

(Draught at Iolida Village, Agia Marina, Crete, Greece.) "Neutral", unremarkable pale lager. Unoffensive. The beer was cold, I was thirsty, it did the trick.
