COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alfa Hellenic Beer is a lager beer, with 5% alcohol content with it’s authentic Greek name and origin, that make it more familiar to Greeks and non-Greeks around the world. It is refreshing, easy to drink and brings to ones memory the authentic taste of Greece! Alfa’s unique light gold color and rich foam is the ultimate pleasure-maker. It is made of high quality natural ingredients (water, barley malt, hops and yeast) and its packaging is distinctive, with the bottle being a more modern version of the original Alfa bottle.

Hops aroma. Pours clear yellow-orange with medium white head. Taste is sweet, watery and slight bitter and carbonated at the finish which is abrupt. Carbonation is fizzy. Body is light. Overall, nothing special about this lager which I didn’t particularly like the amount of carbonation in my mouth. I would prefer another lager over this.

Bottle. It looks -- well -- like beer. A little darker than many LULs; it’s almost a Vienna. Nose is lime candy, metal, and a touch of Eau de Pepe Le Pew. It actually tries to have a substantial flavor, but what actually happens is it has enough flavor to be mediocre-to-bad. Lotsa adjunct, lotsa metal, lotsa cheap-hops bitterness, and a touch of Ivory soap. I’ll drink this one, but I doubt I’d ever drink a second one.

Bottle at Opa! Souvlaki in Astoria, Queens. Pour is light... taste is sweet, a bit tangy, nothing groundbreaking... decent lager.

On tap, served ice cold. Hence hardly no aroma recognisable. High carbonation, some apple in the taste. Not much bitterness, really standard lager.

October 2008: 33cl Green can, brought back from Crete to review at leasure. Being called Alfa, it is the first beer of an evening tasting lagers from around the world, Australia next! Poured into one of my Duvel glasses, it looked a solid lager, golden yellow and clear, clean and neat looking. The large white head that arrived as I poured soon turned into a wispy covering, even with the Duvel glass trying to keep it going with the carbonisation bubbles rising up the centre of the beer. Normal lager non-smell, gets my regular 3 for its nose. Refreshing, dry and a pronounced metallic feel and taste. Tangy and sharp but more of a sunshine beer than a serious session lager. Lacks the body and umph of a good Pilsner, a holiday beer, nothing more.

Can. A dark golden beer with a thin lazing white head. The aroma has notes of grain. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, metal, and hay, leading to a metallic finish.
