Dark color, short head. Aroma of roasted malt, some typical spice. Taste is spicy and bitter, nicely balanced. Decent dunkel.

Tasted this one after downing the Especial and it showed some similar yeasty traits. Aroma had some toasted malt and milk chocolate with a hint of sweet butterscotch and vanilla. Pours a clear, deep brown-black that has ruby highlights. Short tan head forms but doesn’t stick around for long. Light bodied in the mouth and quite spritzy in carbonation it starts with a candi-cane sugary flavour that dominated the beer for the entire length. Toffee, alcohol spices (unusual for it’s ABV) and nutty favours come through on the palate and it finishes off with a an astringent grape skin and roasted grain swallow. The ’candi-cane’ flavour would not go away and it seemed to kill this one for me, it almost made my teeth rattle. One was enough.

Poured with a nice, creamy head from the bottle. Very sweet aroma, with a full-bodied taste. A nice mix of malt, some coffee?, overall, very good. I didn’t expect this from Spain.

Brown/black, clear, with a small diminishing brown head. Nose of honey, cane sugar, and molasses. Tastes something like a scotch and soda--thin flavored, some malt, molasses. Odd.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2005 What a genuine surprize! This poured a deep mahogany color with a sustained tan head. The aroma is a very sweet caramel, but not cloyingly so. This is a malt lover’s drink, rich and sweet. There’s just enough of a hop presence to keep the caramel flavors from going wild. Nice.

UPDATED: JUN 10, 2007 Sweet caramel roastiness with a beautiful deep mahogany pour. Rocky tan head. Very nice. I will have another one. A touch thin, however, and that detracts for me.

Yep, it’s negra ... deep dark reddish brown with an average head. Almost a sweet chocolate aroma. The flavor is doughy (thanks for the word, previous rater .. it’s perfect) and sweet, like a bitter chocolate milk.

Not bad, not big in flavour or anything but it was cold and wet and I was hot and thirsty. Good dark colour with a lasting compact light tan head. Doughy malt aroma with a thin taste of coffee, nuts and grain. A fairly good dark lager for a Spanish beer.

Bottle ala Matta. Deep brown color with ruby/chestnut. Sparse off-white head. Sweetish roasted malt aroma. Rather thin. Roasted malt flavor with a decent hop finish. Fairly well done and as said before, I was more impressed with this than I thought I would be.
