What’s not to love?
Bottle. Red/ brownpour with an Aroma of belgian spices, bread, dark fruit and caramel.
Flavors of brown sugar, bread, plums, earth and hop. If Stegosaurus wasn’t so damn gay, We’d be drinking this together.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of TheBeerSommelier. 2:40 am, work at 9:00am tomorrow (err, today?), I probably shouldn’t be opening a sweet Allagash 750, but what the hell! Cork popped out like opening a champagne bottle. Pours a dark red-orange appearance with a cream colored head that dissipated quickly. Moderately spicy (nutmeg, cinnamon), caramel malty, dark sugar, Belgian yeasty nose. Pretty sweet, Belgian yeasty, caramelized sugar, light toffee, fig, light raisin, caramel malty flavor. Slightly spicy, caramel malty, caramelized sugar, dark raisin/fig aftertaste. Pretty awesome beer. I would expect nothing less out of one of my favorite breweries.

Wenig süßer und voller Malzantrunk. Dies wird sofort milder und wird etwas hefig. Das Bier wandelt sich nun nicht mehr sondern verharrt weitestgehend auf dieser Stufe. Wenig interessant, malzig-trocken, trinkbar. Danke an den Doppelbock für das Bier. 9/9/9/9/10/9

Traded bottle that’s nearing 5 years old now. Poured very gently to not anger the amorphous yeast blob living at the bottom of the bottle. Clear, bronze color with a small khaki head. Sweet Belgian aroma and honestly you can still smell the hops too. Definitely a Belgian by flavor. Nice sweeter malt notes and a little alcohol in the finish. A little spicy too. Well done.

Dark amber, thin white head. The profile is reminiscent of St. Vincent’s Dubbel with honey, brown sugar, nut, light bitterness but a very mellow, creamy sweet finish. The body is a bit sticky and sugary, but the complexity gives it a balanced flavor and keeps it drinkable. Surprised how well its held up, nuance all over this one.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Glouglouburp (4772) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 28, 2010
In short: A messy boozy Belgian amber ale. Huge disappointment.
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed when over 3 year of age (but well cellared, never kept at room temperature).
The look: Cloudy bronze body topped by a medium beige head with low retention
In long: Nose has some nail polish and a full basket of mixed fruits. Taste is aggressive and not so good. Higher alcohols, hospital gloves, plywood, fresh fruits, caramel, shoestrings, candi sugar, fresh vegetables, herbs. I could go on, not because it is complex, but because it is a mess. The beer is actually very sweet but it doesn’t feel sweet because of the overwhelming booze. Not too sure what to make of this beer. It never worked for me in smaller servings and that’s why I sat on my bottle for so long. Now that I decide to open the bottle, it is even worst than I remember. Past due-date? It didn’t feel old, it just felt wrong. This was the last year that Allagash had an anniversary beer with a number. Now that the brewery is older they make annual Fluxus beers and don’t say the age of the brewery. Proof that Allagash is a female brewery.
