COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To acknowledge this year’s anniversary, our 11th, Allagash’s brewers decided to use a champagne yeast for both the primary and secondary fermentations. This beer was brewed with both Cascade and Northern Brewer hops and copious amounts of Belgian Aromatic Malt to achieve its vibrant garnet color and unique, malty palate. At a hefty 9% ABV, the alcohol in this brew is balanced by a light sweetness, a full-bodied mouth feel and a gentle, lingering hop character. Just prior to bottling, when there is no carbonation present in the beer, a fresh dose of sugar and yeast is added. After bottling, the beer is aged in our temperature-controlled cellar, where the yeast ferments the sugar and naturally carbonates the beer. This process, known as méthode champenoise, is the same traditional process we use for all of our bottled beers. The batch of 11th Anniversary Ale was bottled in May of '06 - 950 cases, six bottles in each case and is the only batch that will be available. Its aroma is redolent of red licorice, nutmeg, wild apple, and hard candy. Its taste is malty with date and fig notes with a finish that is crisp, striking a balance between dry and fruity. We suggest serving this rustic brew at cellar temperature. Our 11th Anniversary Ale would make a perfect addition to foods such as roast duck and venison, or with desserts like pumpkin pie and apple cobbler

Thanks to Jcr! Pours a light ruby. Nose is fruity, caramels, light sherry, fruit and even a little cardboard. Flavor is slightly tart, fruity, wine notes, light oxidation. Sweet and moderately rich. Really not bad for its age. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at ebenezer’s. Brown pour with tan head. Dark fruit, spice, sweet malty aromas. Flavors are dark sweet nutty and spice tones, touch of warmth.

750 ml bottle at home from early backlog notes 07. Pours a hazy dark orange amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, dried fruit, raisins, figs, mild spices, Belgian yeast, brown sugar, some earthy notes to the finish. Solid enough. I have enjoyed many of the beers from Allagash.

Cloudy brown beer. Crispish semi dry palate with low carbonation. Sweetish malt with a dry spicy undertone. Dark orange buried deep. Dry finish with an odd aftertaste. Mmm!

What’s not to love? Bottle. Red/ brownpour with an Aroma of belgian spices, bread, dark fruit and caramel. Flavors of brown sugar, bread, plums, earth and hop. If Stegosaurus wasn’t so damn gay, We’d be drinking this together.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of TheBeerSommelier. 2:40 am, work at 9:00am tomorrow (err, today?), I probably shouldn’t be opening a sweet Allagash 750, but what the hell! Cork popped out like opening a champagne bottle. Pours a dark red-orange appearance with a cream colored head that dissipated quickly. Moderately spicy (nutmeg, cinnamon), caramel malty, dark sugar, Belgian yeasty nose. Pretty sweet, Belgian yeasty, caramelized sugar, light toffee, fig, light raisin, caramel malty flavor. Slightly spicy, caramel malty, caramelized sugar, dark raisin/fig aftertaste. Pretty awesome beer. I would expect nothing less out of one of my favorite breweries.

Wenig süßer und voller Malzantrunk. Dies wird sofort milder und wird etwas hefig. Das Bier wandelt sich nun nicht mehr sondern verharrt weitestgehend auf dieser Stufe. Wenig interessant, malzig-trocken, trinkbar. Danke an den Doppelbock für das Bier. 9/9/9/9/10/9

Traded bottle that’s nearing 5 years old now. Poured very gently to not anger the amorphous yeast blob living at the bottom of the bottle. Clear, bronze color with a small khaki head. Sweet Belgian aroma and honestly you can still smell the hops too. Definitely a Belgian by flavor. Nice sweeter malt notes and a little alcohol in the finish. A little spicy too. Well done.
