sliffy (1930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 14, 2007 EBF 2007: Hazy gold with a white head. Aroma yeast and some spice, a bit bready, along with some oak. Flavor, spice, some wood, light fruits, and a dry finish. Nice brew.
dmac (776), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Feb 21, 2008 On tap at Spuyten Duyvil for the Big Woody event. Well after trying this one the fest should be called Big Winey. This one pours a hazy orange with a small white head.Aroma of white wine and oak. Big boozey flavor that seemed to be even stronger then 9.2%, slight oak notes as well. Although this beer was drinkable the wine was the dominant focus here and not the tripel. puzzl (1624), New York, New York, USA Feb 15, 2008 Ah yes, the Allagash brew I’ve been searching for, that will push me into second place. Eat that, JoeMcPhee! Tap at Spuyten, like everyone else. Served too cold. "Lightly sour aroma reveals complexities when one closes the eyes and concentrates." That’s what I wrote on this sheet of paper, at least. Chardonnay and soft oak is, um, "sensual and delightful." Looks like my alter ego may have made a visit when I wrote this. Dry and flavorful, light kiwi and bread... bourbon? Tough to drink, but tasty. A bit oak dominated as it warms. I will now bask in the glory of seeing myself in second place. MaxxDaddy (207), New York, New York, USA Feb 12, 2008 On tap @ Spuyten Duyvil. Pours cloudy orange with slight white head. Aroma initially all oak, though as it opens up a little, some citrus comes out. Taste starts out with citrus and yeast and ends with heavy oak and some white wine butteriness. Somewhat boozy. Average mouthfeel and finishes oaky. The oak really got in the way of the beer here I think, though I’ve never had the regular tripel from them. mkobes (2006), New York, USA Feb 11, 2008 On tap at Spuyten. Hazy golden in color with a little white head. Citrusy, grape and vanilla aroma. Yeasty fruity flavor. Coriander oak notes. Finish is dry and yeasty. Medium bodied. Very nice. Drinkable. egajdzis (2864), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 9, 2008 [Draft at Sputen Duyvil] Poured a hazy golden color with a medium sized white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of earth, citrus fruits, vanilla, and white grapes. Taste of vanilla, grapes, yeast, light citrus, toast and a bit of alcohol as well.
