Ughsmash (3669), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jul 1, 2009 750mL bottle. Poured deep garnet-tinted brown with a creamy, well-retained cap of beige head. The aroma picked up slightly sour cocoa and coffee notes with a dry roast to ’em.. some earth and sweet vanilla accents.. decent balance. The flavor had a blend of sweeter and darker chocolates at the core with mild earth and coffee bitterness surrounding.. burnt black patent, vanilla, and cocoa on the edges.. oaky and coffee sourness returned a bit on the finish along with a touch of smoke, leaving a tangy impression. Medium-bodied and well-carbonated on the palate.. OK transition from the creamier middle to the tangier sides.. tasty, memorable finish. I also had this on tap when it was released, but didn’t rate it.. I remember thinking about 4.2 from that experience. Gethinbeer (889), Nova Scotia, Canada Jun 30, 2009 Good black, deep ruby colour with a thin tan frothy head. Thick chocolate, roasted malt, coffee bean aroma. Fruit and berries in the flavour which give the tangy feel. Bitter dark chocolate finish. Very nice. illinismitty (1652), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jun 21, 2009 I bet Ross loves this beer. Draft at Small Bar in Chicago. Pours black with a retentive beige head. Aroma of yeast, esters, and smoke. Medium to full bodies with a soft creamy texture. The flavor was a bit odd or unique, with a melding of molasses, smoke, funk, coffee grounds, and chocolate. There is a subtle german smoke beer and/or dopplebock quality to it combined with a slight sour tang. JoeTheYounger (92), California, USA Jun 21, 2009 Received as a gift. Pours a dark black color. Aroma was not strong at all. Flavor was much better than the aroma. Very roasty with malty chocolaty goodness. Different for a stout because of the belgian yeast. Pretty tasty. Palidor19 (1678), Brandon, Florida, USA Jun 19, 2009 Solid, deep rich coffee flavors with a touch of cocoa and fruit. though carbonated it goes down very smooth and clean its a large creamy head color. also slightly nutty.
Yum Yum Slipstream (628), USA Jun 17, 2009 From a cask at Rattle n Hum. My first reaction was, wow, what is this stuff? Slightly vinous, smoky aroma. It tastes like a dark, roasty bock with a good amount of sweetness and a clean, hoppy close. There are touches of herbs and chocolate too. It is pretty complex and develops nicely on the palate. A very interesting and enjoyable brew. cbkschubert (1852), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA Jun 16, 2009 750 ml bottle (batch 4) - Pours a clear brown color with a one finger thick light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, and light coffee. Flavor is much of the same with the addition of some light esters. Roasted malt lingers a tad on the palate. The alcohol is noticeable at the finish. Medium body. A nice beer. keepersj12 (642), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Jun 15, 2009 Black. Surprised? Big brown head that laces. Aroma is malt and bread. Taste is very complex. Coffee, chocolate, some smokiness in there, sweet and bitter. Finish is very dry and smooth with an alcohol bite. Mine said batch #9. Excellent.
