A rather funkey chocolate aroma with herbaceous notes, a bit of catnip. In mouth, a bitter chocolate with dandelion and grass, lingering roastedness. Medium bodied. Bottle at American Flatbread, Post Vermont Brewfest Dinner, July 19 2008 with TaktikMtl and Goldorak. Cybercat (786), Georgia, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Oct 25, 2008 Comes out of the tap a deep opaque sable with a fairly thick tan head - very appetizing. Aroma is like well-roasted mocha and has just a hint of caramel. Flavor is rich and ’’stouty’’ - smoky with strong coffee and unsweetened chocolate components - and has just a touch of sweetness. Finish is smooth and very pleasing. A winner! tarheels86 (734), Washington DC, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 21, 2008 From the Bottle Shop in Carrboro, NC. Very interesting and unique. Pours black (surprise) with an enormous head. Lots of roasted malt, dark fruits, espresso, and dark chocolate in the nose. A little spicy and a little hoppy on the palate but very nice- distinct from a regular stout. This could be a quad made with roasted malt. Very original and very good. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Allagash is worth the price every time. This is a inspired blending of stout dark roastiness with belgian light palate and crisp carbonation. the color was as dark as any good stout with a think head that wasn’t much more than a film on the beers surface. chocolate and roasted malt taste was enhanced by a sparkling palate. light sense of hops in the very back of the finish. apshah99 (138), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Black pour with thin tan head. Sweet roasted malt with some spices in the aroma. More roasted malt with coffee anda little dark fruit, lingering bitterness on the finish. Nice and viscous on the palate with effervescent mouthfeel. Very nice beer; expect nothing less from Allagash. durhambeer (1202), Durham, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 15, 2008 Sample from WBF in Durham. Very dark pour wnd not a very big head. Roasty malt barley on the nose. Toasted bread. Chocolate and dark fruits. A mix b/w a quad and a stout perhaps? Surprisingly light palate. Damn, I wish this were cheaper. rmalloy (195), los angeles, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Solid. Dark chocolate. Roasty but not too roasty. Subdued but complex fruit--hints of a Quadrupel. Light hops, not roasted malt, provide most of the bitterness. This beer is a success. cakanator (41), Northampton, Massachusetts, USA
