COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Allagash Black, our new Belgian style stout, is brewed with German 2 row barley, Torrified wheat and oats, balanced by a large addition of Belgian dark candi to give the Black a full and silky mouthfeel. Roasted malts give this stout its classic chocolate, toast and malty taste, and contribute to chocolate notes and a hint of roasted coffee in the aroma. The Black is fermented with a Belgian yeast strain and refermented in the bottle with the methode champenoise to make this beer truly unique. Availability: 750 ml bottles, 5.17 gal kegs ABV: 7.5% Original Gravity: 1.072 Recommended Serving Temperature: 55°F Recommended Cellaring Temperature: 55°F

Corked bottle.
Pours with a beautiful black yet with a mellow (too mellow) aroma of weak nuts and coffee malt. Flavor is a rush of raspberry chocolate syrup and coffee-soaked malt. Decent mouthfeel. Not bad, but just above average.

A thin, smooth, chocolatey stout with a touch of bitter. A lot of stouts are so gimmicky or overdo the coffee tones. This is palatable and decent. Another good brew from Allagash.

pours a deep, rich brown...almost black...with a huge, foamy mocha colored head. aroma has hints of creamy roastiness, dark chocolate, espresso, subtle dark fruit, and a bit of a metallic aroma. flavor has significant roastiness, subtle chocolate, and bitter hoppiness at the end that dries out the finish. mouthfeel is slightly silky/creamy but it finishes thin almost like a schwarzbier but with more lingering roasty/hoppiness. tasty but not what i expected...

On draught at South Park Tavern. Tulip glass. Poured dark dark brown almost black with a tiny tint of red at bottom and edges. Aroma of chocolate and oats. very very smooth taste in mouth. Milky smooth. Goes down a little bit more bitter then most stouts. Good foreign stout.

Bottle from Cavie. Black pour with good tan head. Taste is a little sour, coffee, dark chocolate. Smells about the same, but more up front with the chocolate.

750ml bottle. Pours a deep brown, almost black colored body with a reddish hue. Finger-width, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves some pretty lacework. Aroma is a nice blend of dry roasts and coffees, bittersweet dark chocolates, and fruity yeast. Some deeper toffee malts, nuts, earthy pepper, and mint. Flavor is plentiful, but gentle. Roasts and a light coffee greet the tongue along with a fruity, slightly estery yeast. Richer than the aroma, toffee malts and chocolates offer a balancing sweetness. Smooth, nutty brown malts and pecans guide this into the finish where a soft, minty pepper leads to a medium, earthy bitterness and a dry, roasty, somewhat burnt finish. Aftertaste lingers for a lengthy duration after a light to medium body and a creamy carbonation. Overall, a very tasty Belgian styled stout. The Belgian yeast is well integrated and balanced with the rest of the big, but gentle flavors. Solid stuff.
