Commercial Description:
Allagash Black, our new Belgian style stout, is brewed with German 2 row barley, Torrified wheat and oats, balanced by a large addition of Belgian dark candi to give the Black a full and silky mouthfeel. Roasted malts give this stout its classic chocolate, toast and malty taste, and contribute to chocolate notes and a hint of roasted coffee in the aroma. The Black is fermented with a Belgian yeast strain and refermented in the bottle with the methode champenoise to make this beer truly unique. What a fine ale. Had this on tap and I was so pleased with the balence of this beer. It was strong but not overpowering. Had a large tan head that lasted through the session. flavour of malts and berries.

Dark brown/black color with a fully foaming and long lasting head of foam. Intricate nose showcases notes of cocoa and roast, as well as dark fruit notes of syrah grapes and blackberries. Flavor has nice balance, but is perhaps a bit sweet. Similar notes as in the aroma, lots of sweet dark red fruit notes. Could have more dark malt notes to improve it. Overall, it’s a well made ale.

Reminds me of a roasty-tasting dubbel like Maredsous 8 but more so. Fruitiness of the yeast seems to outdo the roastiness, which is more present in the finish. Vanilla.

From a 750 ml bottle. Perfectly black body with a persistent and stick to the glass dark tan head. The aroma was rich with some milk chocoalte and a little bit of chicory. There is also some roasted peanut. The taste has some light milk chocolate mixed with almonds. There is also a little bit of espresso, but it is faint and in the finish. Nicely done and good example of what I expect from this style.

(750ml bottle) Pours a dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, light sourness, smoke, and coffee. Flavor of roasted malt, Belgian yeast, nuts, chocolate, and coffee with a bitter finish.

Pours dark w/ a full lasting head and superb lacing. Aromas of cocoa and dark fruit. Medium nectar w/ creamy, expansive residual effers. Beautifully balanced flavors of cocoa and darkfruit intermingle w/ a moderate roast component. A striking hop profile bitters this to a classic level. The finish lingers. One awesome brew!

This bottled brew from a rating party poured a small sized head of cream colored foamy finely sized quickly diminishing bubbles that left behind a fair lacing and an opaque dark brown colored body with bubbly carbonation. The aroma was of mild dirty feet and malt. The mouth feel was bubbly carbonated and tingly from start to finish,. The flavor contained notes of dark malt and soft hops. Not impressed.
