| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 3, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A fun example of this pleasant and rare Belgian stout “style”.
I like:
Very effective palate, authentic carbonation and malt structure. Appropriate roastiness level to avoid any astringency, yet cut through sweetness sufficiently. Sweet beginning, but relatively dry finish.
I dislike:
Not as much character as some to its yeastiness. Some esters manage to peak through, but it never reaches too far, no attempt is being made at integrating a trace of sourness etc – it is mostly limited to plain breadiness, thus losing a lot of its Belgian potential.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 3, 2008 Black bodied. Weak coffee and chocolate aroma with a touch of sweetness. Very dry dark coffee flavor in a watery body. AgentSteve (1366), SF Bay Area, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 3, 2008 On tap @ Mission Pizza, pours almost black with a two finger creamy head. The nose and flavor are very close, with a subtle smokiness, malt sweetness, and a bit of spice and yeast. A bit lively, yet smooth on the palate. MartinT (5050), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 1, 2008 Updated: Oct 26, 2008My Bottom Line:
Fluffy roastiness delineates a yeasty fruitiness, as chocolatey opinions team up with minty spiciness to liven up this gentle and thoughtful Belgian-style Stout (whatever that means).
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the brownish black.
-The roasted malt provides some decent bitterness.
-The mouthfeel is authentically Belgian, classy and peacefully effervescent.
-The inherent spiciness is peppery at times as well.
-The fruit character developed by the yeast and the sugars recalls dates, at times.
-This seems to age quite well; more will have to be had (for scientific purposes, of course...)

Smells of chocolate, some coffee, some fruit hints, yeast. Rich malts, bitter chocolate, coffee, some fruity phenols, a touch acidic, a little bready yeast flavor. Quite smooth and dries nicely. Very nice. TeamTrappist (382), jericho, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 29, 2008 On tap. Poured nice and black, with a thin yellow head. There is no doubt that this beer is what the brewer says it is, a belgian stout. Nicely carbonated, with a medium bodied mouthful that goes down real easy. Some burnt notes, and hints of chocolate and coffee. I often dislike combination beers, but I really like this beer. Very similar to De Dolle Extra. Nice strong bitter finish too. Good solid beer.
