nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 23, 2008 Updated: Oct 1, 2008750 ml. Three finger head that leaves nice lace. Aroma is charred coffee beans and hickory wood, lightly sweetened with molasses, and some light whiffs of citrus-bready yeast. Flavor is espresso, peppery green hickory, dry cocoa, charred oak, vanilla, and molasses. Some slight bubblegum, brown sugar, and yeast show up a bit later in the glass. This is the least sweet Foreign Stout I have tasted to date, but that isn’t a bad thing. Heavy body is smooth and slightly dry. Holdwine (905), Beertimore, Maryland, USA May 22, 2008 At Savor. Quite an interesting black pour. A dry stout with an upfront belgian yeast capper. Coffee and dark chocolate on the nose and tongue. Very nice. alex1012 (13), Asheville, North Carolina, USA May 21, 2008 Pours with a disappointing head, thin and low, has some slight Belgian yeast aromas with Munich and Roasted malt hints. Flavor is thin with some roast and hop flavor and bitterness noted. Average, not the best of Allagash. Decent beer at a high price. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA May 20, 2008 creamy coffee with sweet chocolate with hints of spice on the nose. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Creamy, roasty, bitter chocolate with hints of burnt coffee with a slightly spicy finish. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA May 19, 2008 On-tap at PP C’Bad. Pours dark brown with a big creamy light brown head, good retention, good lace. Smells dark and malty and also a little bit of rubbing alcohol. Tastes like dark sweet malts mixed with tequila. Not that good. Medium body, good carbonation. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA May 18, 2008 Sampled at the Savor DC event. Pours a watery, opaque black with a thin white head. Peppery, yeasty, nutty aroma. Flavor is similar, with pepper, licorice, yeast and grain. Finish is soft with just a little bite. JCW (1262), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 18, 2008 Shared with TMoney99 & MBall581 @ Riversbend in Mainesville. Well crafted beer. This beer brought back memories of De Dolle’s Export Stout. Very dark in color, with and aroma of Belgian yeasts. I like stouts and frankly most dark beers and I’m always interested in tasting a new variation on a stout. The dark malts in these one gave it a charcoal taste with enough sugars and yeasts flavors to balance it out. Good & Interesting stout. hopdog (5534), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 17, 2008 750ml bottle. Poured a medium to deeper brown with a hugh (5+ finger) sized head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, some coffee grounds, tobbaco and smoke. Tastes of roast, tobbaco, chocolate, and coffee. Body on the thinner side.
