COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Allagash Black, our new Belgian style stout, is brewed with German 2 row barley, Torrified wheat and oats, balanced by a large addition of Belgian dark candi to give the Black a full and silky mouthfeel. Roasted malts give this stout its classic chocolate, toast and malty taste, and contribute to chocolate notes and a hint of roasted coffee in the aroma. The Black is fermented with a Belgian yeast strain and refermented in the bottle with the methode champenoise to make this beer truly unique. Availability: 750 ml bottles, 5.17 gal kegs ABV: 7.5% Original Gravity: 1.072 Recommended Serving Temperature: 55°F Recommended Cellaring Temperature: 55°F

Draft at CAh, pours black with little head and lacing. Nose is mild with roasted malted and molasses. First sip is nice with black malt, smooth drinking, with coffee andmilk chocolate. Finish is nice most porter like.

Poured 750 ml into tulip glass. Riich dark brown with a medium sized and persistent head. It has a weighty feel on the tongue and nice carbonation. Chocolate and roast flavors are very prominent, and there is a fleeting taste of bourbon that rounds it out. Overall it is an excellent beer worthy of the description as a "sophisticated stout".

Pours a thin black with a tab fizzy head that leaves barley a trace of lace. A touch over carbonated. Nose and taste are of dark chocolate, spice, subdued hops, roasted malts. A very solid beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a medium, lasting head. Aroma is mostly roasted malts and coffee with hints of chocolate and dark fruits. Flavor is similar to the aroma with hints of yeast. Smooth finish. Overall pretty good.

Tasted in August 2011 from a corked and caged 750mL bottle at Lush Roscoe, batch #28. Pours extremely dark amber, letting just a tint of light through, with a thin tan head that slowly recedes to a thin collar of lace. The nose is darkly roasted malt, coffee, bitter dark chocolate, and burnt bread. The flavor is lightly sweet up front, moving to dusty roasted malt, semi-sweet dark chocolate, freshly roasted coffee, and spicy Belgian yeast. The body is full with average carbonation and a long spicy yeast, dark chocolate, and coffee finish.

Large format, in snifter. Brownish black and opaque with tan white lacing. Aromas of slight leather, licorace, but not much else. Can almost smell the a hint of coffee coming off the top. Slight chocolate, roasted, burnt flavors with a bit of sweetness. Light thin silky mouthfeel with lively small bubble carbonation. Slight bitter finish. Well balanced, but almost too well. No specific flavor jumps out. Glad I tried it, but too expensive and probalby would not have again.

On tap at Jimmy the Greeks in Old Orchard Beach. Served in an Allagash stem glass. Roasty aroma. Medium body. Well hopped. I actually thought this was a Black IPA at first. Not as hoppy though, but more so than you’d expect with a stout. Wonderful coffee and chocolate notes with this one. Well done.
