Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Jun 19, 2009 Solid, deep rich coffee flavors with a touch of cocoa and fruit. though carbonated it goes down very smooth and clean its a large creamy head color. also slightly nutty.
Yum Yum Slipstream (734), USA Jun 17, 2009 From a cask at Rattle n Hum. My first reaction was, wow, what is this stuff? Slightly vinous, smoky aroma. It tastes like a dark, roasty bock with a good amount of sweetness and a clean, hoppy close. There are touches of herbs and chocolate too. It is pretty complex and develops nicely on the palate. A very interesting and enjoyable brew. cbkschubert (1945), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA Jun 16, 2009 750 ml bottle (batch 4) - Pours a clear brown color with a one finger thick light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, and light coffee. Flavor is much of the same with the addition of some light esters. Roasted malt lingers a tad on the palate. The alcohol is noticeable at the finish. Medium body. A nice beer. keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Jun 15, 2009 Black. Surprised? Big brown head that laces. Aroma is malt and bread. Taste is very complex. Coffee, chocolate, some smokiness in there, sweet and bitter. Finish is very dry and smooth with an alcohol bite. Mine said batch #9. Excellent. grant (792), Long Beach, CA/Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jun 15, 2009 Extremely dark brown. Massive, rocky head. Complex nutty/yeasty aroma with slight peanut butter...? Surprisingly soft, malty flavor. Light metallic notes at finish. drseusszb200 (183), Florida, USA Jun 14, 2009 pours black with a white head and good lacing. smells like a sweet belgian with hints of chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. tastes like a good string belgian and a stout, so sweet at beggining with a nice finishing flavor of smoked malts and coffee accent. good aftertaste. TomDecapolis (3127), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 11, 2009 750 ml bottle aged close to a year, pours a deep brownish/black with a larger foamy/pillowy off white head tha left spotty lacing. Aroma of molasses, tobacco, light smoke toffee, coffee, dark belgian chocolate, peppery and light fruity belgian yeast notes. Flavor of a belgian strong with a bunch of roasty malt character. Some dark chocolate and coffee notes. Hints of dark roasted nuts, spicy, earthy and yeasty. Hints of smoke and molasses. Very well done and quite enjoyable. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Jun 10, 2009 Allagash black
Dark body that is brown around the edges, very loose bubbled head. Roast chocolate nose with a musty note, and a fruit scent that carries the yeast note nicely. Fruity taste that turns to roast quickly and finishes burnt. Dusty flavor throughout, not all that pleasant, does not develop over time, same flavors at the end of the bottle as the beginning, gets a bit more yeasty, but the roast is just too dominant for me. Some smoky flavors. The fruity notes do not balance and the chocolate is just not strong enough. Very similar to hercule. A bit tart at some points. I have to start staying away from Belgian stout type beers yet to find one I enjoy.
