Allagash Black, our new Belgian style stout, is brewed with German 2 row barley, Torrified wheat and oats, balanced by a large addition of Belgian dark candi to give the Black a full and silky mouthfeel. Roasted malts give this stout its classic chocolate, toast and malty taste, and contribute to chocolate notes and a hint of roasted coffee in the aroma. The Black is fermented with a Belgian yeast strain and refermented in the bottle with the methode champenoise to make this beer truly unique. UPDATED: FEB 2, 2015 At Fork on Lincoln. Brownish black slightly sweet stout with coffee taste and aroma. Easy to drink for it’s strength. Flavors come together nicely. Serving: Tap

Proper stout nose, rich, roasted malts, dark coffee and a little yeast. Dark brown, opaque with tan foam. The taste is roasted malt and some coffee and chocolate come through with some moderate flavors of bread and yeast. Finishes with malty darkness. Overall very smooth and drinkable. Medium - heavy body with low - moderate fizz. Sampled at Wurst Party Ever 7 November 2015.

Deep reddish black pour that lets some light through. Big coffee, some chocolate, licorice, roasted malts on nose. Flavor carries same as aroma with flavors trading prominence through finish - has a pleasant boozy backbone. Some nuttiness and a nice bitter finish. Medium and slick mouthfeel.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2016 Bottle. Pours black with little head. Aroma is mild but nice, very roasty, caramel, dark malts. Flavour is quite complex, lots of dark malts, with a sweetish, bitter finish. Nice! Can’t really sense the Belgian flavours....

Very roasty/stouty aroma, and nice white foam. it is like a really good dry stout with a bit of a sweet touch.

2016/06/25 - Pours a black colour with a foamy, khaki head that lingers and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is yeast, toasted bread, roasted malt, coffee, light smoke and dark bitter chocolate. Taste follows nose; toasted bread, yeast, roasted coffee, nutty tones, earthy hops, bitter cocoa and just a hint of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium and silky with sharp carbonation and a toasty, bitter finish. Lots of coffee and cocoa with minimal sweetness. Nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle into pint glass. Looks like weaker coffee, off-white lingering head. Slightly sweat nose, suggestion of raisins, some roasted malts deep in the background. In the mouth, mostly light malt. Not really getting the chocolate. A bit of bitter in the back. A decent, but oddly sort of dull stout.

Sample poured at Allagash. The pour is a reddish brown with a huge light tan head that falls to a film leaving all kinds of lace. The aroma is full of metallic malts. There is a light cocoa to it, but it is a little messy. There isn’t a lot happening. The flavor is a little better, but not much. The malts are lighter and slightly roasted with a string metallic bit lingering on. The mouth feel is thin and watery with a light carbonation and slightly sweet aftertaste. This one is pretty weird, and quite disappointing.
