COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Allagash Black, our new Belgian style stout, is brewed with German 2 row barley, Torrified wheat and oats, balanced by a large addition of Belgian dark candi to give the Black a full and silky mouthfeel. Roasted malts give this stout its classic chocolate, toast and malty taste, and contribute to chocolate notes and a hint of roasted coffee in the aroma. The Black is fermented with a Belgian yeast strain and refermented in the bottle with the methode champenoise to make this beer truly unique. Poured into a goblet. No head, only a faint covering, dark amber to brown colored. Bubbles visible. Smells spicy, molasses, black licorice, yeasty and roasted malt. Bold and rich flavor. Roasted malt, some sweetness at the beginning, bready, lots of burnt malt at the end. Complex profile and perfectly put together. Light and "fluffy" texture. Low carbonation. Incredible! Just a bit more on the appearance and this is near perfect.

Awesome American stout. Light aroma of roast grains, and chocolate. Slick, oily mouth feel. Taste blends it all together, very mild coffee bitterness at the finish.

This is a good beer pouring quite nearly black with ample head fading to just lingering around the edges with a smear in the middle. Good carbonation when held to a bright light. A wiff of roasted malt can be smelled along with a hint of alcohol warming. Tastes like a stoudt with roasted malt, sweet. Can also taste chocolate and coffee tones. Dry at finish, mouth puckering. Smooth with a thick mouthfeel alcohol warming at the end that tickles the tongue and lips. Over all this is a very drinkable beer. I wish I had another but I don’t.

Not worth the bottle price, but it is still cool to be able to try a Belgian Style Stout.

Purchased at Allagash. 12 oz bottle.well roasted grains giving a little coffee flavor. Dry malt amd some chocolate. Nothing particularly Belgian about it, aside from the yeast I suppose. Good.

Aromatic chocolate and dark fruit. Touch of licorice. Mostly opaque. More licorice and chocolate on the front of the tongue, light clinging sweetness in the finish. Touch of hops and spice at the end.

My absolute favorite stout, hands down. I was first introduced to this beer by a bartender in Chicago, and this is beer is the reason I love Allagash. It’s not perfect, but damn it’s good.

A ’staple’ when I was first introduced to the craft beer industry, but now that the boom has landed, this beer and others from its brewery tend to get lost in the mix.

Bottle. Mildly sweet aroma. Pours dark brown. Taste is slightly bitter, hard to place. Solid stout but I’m not a fan of this one.
