COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Allagash Black, our new Belgian style stout, is brewed with German 2 row barley, Torrified wheat and oats, balanced by a large addition of Belgian dark candi to give the Black a full and silky mouthfeel. Roasted malts give this stout its classic chocolate, toast and malty taste, and contribute to chocolate notes and a hint of roasted coffee in the aroma. The Black is fermented with a Belgian yeast strain and refermented in the bottle with the methode champenoise to make this beer truly unique. Pours a very dark brown with a thick off white head that leaves great lacing. Smells of chocolate, toast, caramel and a touch of Belgian yeast. Tastes of all the same things in the nose and very earthy. Mouthfeel is silky, smooth, and chewy with good carbonation. Overall this is a great Belgian

caramel, bread, chocolate, nuts, toast, roasty, amber, red, brown, black, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour, umami, full body, creamy, thick feel, lively. A stout that comes as close to perfect as you can get. The only thing stopping it is that it just doesn’t quite have the mouthfeel that a dark brew should, as if they held back giving it that motor oil feel. Do not be fooled though. This beer is top notch. Pair this with a good brat on a cold day.

On tap at Poured brown, almost black, thick beige head and lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma was caramel, some chocolate and some yeast/grain and some spice. Very good tasting beer spices and malts are nicely balanced with coffee notes, quite enjoyable.

Pours a nice root beer colored brown with a small head. The smell is chocolate and coffee and the taste carries through and finishes well. An incredibly drinkable Belgian style stout!

Bottle from BOTW. Black with a fine, low head. fragrant nose, Belgian yeast, spicy, coffee, wood, soy sauce, dark chocolate. Sweet and fruity up front, then dry and roasty. Very Belgian stout. Well burnt in the finish. Very complex. Not my personal favorite style, but this is very well done.

Purchased at Shaw’s in Auburn, Maine. Pours a dark brown colour with a big frothy beige head, good retention and some lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and candy yeast. Milder tasting but with a nice balance between bitterness, sweetness and roastiness. Goes down nicely.

Pours a translucent brown (cola color). A bit of a funky nose - malt, cola, but overall somewhat unpleasant. Taste is pretty good, though - some chocolate, licorice. Somewhat light bodied. Maybe a little too much carbonation. Pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ruby black with a nice beige head. Aroma is brown sugar, dates, currants, Belgian candi sugar, honey, subtle hint of leather. Medium bodied, lightly sweet on the palate with a hint of balancing bitterness, slightly spicy finish. Taste is dates, raisins, dark candi sugar, caramel, hint of oak.

Awesome American stout. Light aroma of roast grains, and chocolate. Slick, oily mouth feel. Taste blends it all together, very mild coffee bitterness at the finish.

This is a good beer pouring quite nearly black with ample head fading to just lingering around the edges with a smear in the middle. Good carbonation when held to a bright light. A wiff of roasted malt can be smelled along with a hint of alcohol warming. Tastes like a stoudt with roasted malt, sweet. Can also taste chocolate and coffee tones. Dry at finish, mouth puckering. Smooth with a thick mouthfeel alcohol warming at the end that tickles the tongue and lips. Over all this is a very drinkable beer. I wish I had another but I don’t.
