Taste-nut shells, rye, tea, light perfume, brown ale notes, pecan shells, very enjoyable. I could drink this all day, everyday. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 21, 2008 Kind of odd to see something so dark coming out of an Allagash bottle! Very nice substantial pour; you can tell it’s got a robust body just looking at it, obviously thick in consistency and with a nice tan head. Pretty complex aroma, roasted malts apparent initially but then some mildly yeasty notes in there, like dried apricots or dates along with molasses. The taste isn’t quite as complex as the nose, somehow, and it comes across as a big, creamy foreign stout rather than a hybrid Belgian stout. Still, though it’s too pricy for the payoff, it’s enjoyable for sure. Palidor19 (1798), Brandon, Florida, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours opaque dark brown with a lasting light tan head. The aroma is kind of light. Roast, chocolate, all the usual suspects. All the flavors are pretty much balanced all the way though. A bit of roast, and a bit of chocolate, and a bit of char. Medium/light body with a pleasant amount of carbonation. Roasty dry finish. This is a fine beer, but not really as complex as the finer examples of a foreign stout. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 23, 2008 Dark brown/black body with a medium-sized tan head. Rich chocolate nose with molasses, raisins and toffee. The flavor is lightly sweet with roast, milk chocolate, molasses, prunes and ash. Medium/full body is soft with light carbonation. sneagrams3 (1764), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 24, 2008 The Dan Journal #171. Tasted 5/3/08. 750ml bottle. Pitch brown hue. Layer of taupe head. Coffee and slight raisins in the aroma. Slight berries and cocoa. Full bodied and crisp yet bitter. Nice yeasty citrus flavor. Typical belgian yeast character. Good sticky malts. Rye bitterness. Tangy and the yeast character is a little too overt. It’s what it is, Belgian styled. jake65 (1733), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 6, 2009 Bottle - thanks mcox90. Pours a deep brown with a finger of creamy tan head. Aroma is rich with roasty cocoa and coffee notes. Flavor is again heavy in the roast with more espresso coming through and lighter chocolate. As it warmed, the roast mellows out a bit with more of the cocoa coming through. Delicious. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 22, 2008 Bottle. Dad picked me up another one when he was in Maine, so I decided to go on and open my own bottle. Wow! Typical Allagsh here - no disappointments. I have been waiting for this day for years - my favoirte brewer to brew a stout. Pops off and instantly fills up the air with some coffee and chocolate smells. Smell also has plenty of roasted malts, and some sweet smells as well. Has that typical Allagash smell that seems to either be love or hate - pretty sure it is their yeast. The taste has that awesome signature Allagash flavor that I expect with every beer they brew. Full flavored, full bodied, roasted, full of chocolate, rich. Just an amazing foreign stout - the best I have ever had. An awesome stout for those people who are maybe still kind of shy of them. Fucking awesome beer! I could be partial since this is my favorite brewer..... but then again, maybe not.
