COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Allagash Black, our new Belgian style stout, is brewed with German 2 row barley, Torrified wheat and oats, balanced by a large addition of Belgian dark candi to give the Black a full and silky mouthfeel. Roasted malts give this stout its classic chocolate, toast and malty taste, and contribute to chocolate notes and a hint of roasted coffee in the aroma. The Black is fermented with a Belgian yeast strain and refermented in the bottle with the methode champenoise to make this beer truly unique. Availability: 750 ml bottles, 5.17 gal kegs ABV: 7.5% Original Gravity: 1.072 Recommended Serving Temperature: 55°F Recommended Cellaring Temperature: 55°F

pours a dark brown, with an off-white/beige head. Aroma is roasty-yeasty, with a cooled dark coffee character. Taste begins with maybe more chocolate than coffee, with a distinctive belgian ale backdrop. Definitely more dark chocolate in the finish; an enjoyable bitterness. A really great belgian-style stout.

Bottle. Notes of chocolate and candy aroma (burnt caramel?), rounded off with a strong malt aroma. Dark brown in color with reddish hues and an off white/tan head. Flavors were nice, a balance of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Medium bodied, slightly too much carbonation at first but it has a very nice dry coffee(slight) finish. Overall this a really good beer and I think aging will improve this beer. The carbonation and strong alcohol feel is a bit overpowering at times. I hope it will mellow a bit with age. Good offering by Allagash.

More carbonated and lighter body than expected. Subtle aroma. Creamy tan head. No lacing. Not my favorite stout but ok. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Just opened bottle, im expecting a very sweet very full bodied stout. The color seems as black as the name and label with virtually no head....sad... The aroma smells like coffee and a sweet smell. Both very faint. The taste is almost as i thought. Sweet medium/full body. Must use same yeast as the other allagash beer that i had i forget the name. But it has an identical taste. No hoppy flavor no vanilla or chocolate or coffee for that matter as in most other stouts. For a belgian stout i say they did a fairly decent job. Worth a buy at least once.

750 ml bottle. Poured a thick deep black with a 1 finger tan head. Nice aroma of roasted malts, notes of toffee, coffee, vanilla cream, caramelized sugar and oats. Palate is silky silky smooth with an average dose of carbonation. Feels really nice on the mouth, smooth w/o being very heavy and syrupy. Taste is nice but not very assertive. Its really a mild beer but that goes along with the soft mouth feel I think. Taste is of roasted malts and oats. Finishes with a creamy caramel taste and some of the toffee/coffee notes. Nice and mild. Not sure where the heavy price tag comes from but it’s a good interesting stout.

Pours a thick black with a creamy white 1 1/2 finger head. Chocolate, coffee, and slight fruitiness in the aroma...probably from the belgian yeast. Taste matches the aroma along with a roastiness with the chocolate flavor the most prevalent. Heavy body of a stout. Really hits the spot.

Appearance - body is a solid midnight black, dense foamy beige head stays. Aroma - nose is roasty and creamy, dark vinous fruits, burnt caramel, bitter chocolate, vanilla, notes of yeast, some candy hops. Palate/Flavour - body has big presence, a medium-light foamy/creamy mouthfeel, roasty flavours, fruit, bitter chocolate, coffee, some candy, a long lasting toasty chocolate/dark fruit finish.

Draft from Pizzeria Paradiso. Pours opaque black with faint coffee. Not as aromatic as I would think it would be, but maybe I’m a little stuffy. Tan head that clears quickly, but leaves lots of lacing on the glass. Watery taste up front, almost like a tap water taste. It gets better as it gets to the middle and back palette. Coffee with roasted malt. Kind of disappointing, for something in the 95th percentile I expected good flavor and mouthfeel across the whole palette. This didn’t deliver, but I will probably revisit it to be sure.

Smooth for a black. Not too sweet with a decent aftertaste. Surprisingly thirst quenching too.
