Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Oct 25, 2008 Comes out of the tap a deep opaque sable with a fairly thick tan head - very appetizing. Aroma is like well-roasted mocha and has just a hint of caramel. Flavor is rich and ’’stouty’’ - smoky with strong coffee and unsweetened chocolate components - and has just a touch of sweetness. Finish is smooth and very pleasing. A winner! BorksBabe (81), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 8, 2008 Aroma is of malt and slight hops. A little mollasses and oats. Full and silky on the plate, the flavor is reminiscent of coffee with yeast. I love it! GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Jun 26, 2008 Pours dark w/ a full lasting head and superb lacing. Aromas of cocoa and dark fruit. Medium nectar w/ creamy, expansive residual effers. Beautifully balanced flavors of cocoa and darkfruit intermingle w/ a moderate roast component. A striking hop profile bitters this to a classic level. The finish lingers. One awesome brew! mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Jan 13, 2008 Bottle thanks to Matt. Deep dark black in color with a off white head. Sweet candi sugar and roasty aroma. Roasty coffee malty flavor. Caramel candi sugar and chocolatety notes. Full bodied. Sweet tasting. Very carbonated. Finish is roasty. Very drinkable. Wow. DKTN (110), Mc Donald, Tennessee, USA Jun 8, 2008 Bottle, 750ml. Poured in a goblet. Black with a small tan head. Malty aroma with notes of dark fruit and caramel. Very full bodied and extremely well-balanced. One of the best beers I’ve ever had. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jan 8, 2008 Caged and corked ... poured with a gigantic foam top, well retained over black gold. The aroma is entertaining ... chocolate right off the bat, with twinges of licorice and more. Quite smooth to the drink, sweet and fruity, with the undercurrent of chocolate still the predominating character, but well augmented with ark fruity and mellow sugar. Exceptional. (#3278, 1/8/2008) Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Jan 12, 2008 Bottle tahnks to Matt. Smells amesome with plenty of burnt candy sugar then roasty malts that smell like coffee. This is all espresso, probably more so then any coffee stouts. Mouthfeel is prickly and alive. Body is perfect IMHO for the style but it’s also on the sweet side for the style. This is a really good beer. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Jul 22, 2008 Bottle. Dad picked me up another one when he was in Maine, so I decided to go on and open my own bottle. Wow! Typical Allagsh here - no disappointments. I have been waiting for this day for years - my favoirte brewer to brew a stout. Pops off and instantly fills up the air with some coffee and chocolate smells. Smell also has plenty of roasted malts, and some sweet smells as well. Has that typical Allagash smell that seems to either be love or hate - pretty sure it is their yeast. The taste has that awesome signature Allagash flavor that I expect with every beer they brew. Full flavored, full bodied, roasted, full of chocolate, rich. Just an amazing foreign stout - the best I have ever had. An awesome stout for those people who are maybe still kind of shy of them. Fucking awesome beer! I could be partial since this is my favorite brewer..... but then again, maybe not.
