Nose is cocoa and roasty coffee, with a hint of floral hops mixed in. Taste is so smooth - cocoa and roasty espresso meld with a mellow dark fruit & cherry note, and floral hops asserting themselves just enough to balance, with almost no acidity. Silky smooth, with full but fairly light body. Really fantastic beer when cask conditioned. jeffe (3), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jun 28, 2008 Reminds me of a roasty-tasting dubbel like Maredsous 8 but more so. Fruitiness of the yeast seems to outdo the roastiness, which is more present in the finish. Vanilla. branspra (247), Arlington, Virginia, USA

Aromas of chocolate, roasted malts, and a hint of coffee. Wonderful start with a stout mouthfeel that leads to a Belgium finish - perfection! Flavors of chocolate, malts, and hints of bananas. I will definitely purchase this beer going forward! beerandIT (203), Richmond, Virginia, USA

On the initial pour it is a very nice dark almost pitch black color with half an inch of head that subsides but seems to be staying around nicely though. Also initially I am seeing that it is going to lace on the glass very nicely. Wood on the nose, bourbon smell there, coffee, slight malt nuances and toffee there as well. From the taste I am getting chocolate, coffee, slight caramel nuances, slight toffee there as well. Very nice stuff. ruskiimperial (84), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 12, 2009 Pour gives about a finger of head which dissipates down to a thin line, leaving behind a nice lacing on the glass. Aroma has scent of burnt malts and chocolate. The initial taste has some typical stout characteristics (coffee, chocolate) in addition to some serious candy sugar and belgian yeasts. On the aftertaste the taste of chocolate is quite prevalent. This is a very interesting belgian stout. jbender (23), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 10, 2009 Pours a thick black with a creamy white 1 1/2 finger head. Chocolate, coffee, and slight fruitiness in the aroma...probably from the belgian yeast. Taste matches the aroma along with a roastiness with the chocolate flavor the most prevalent. Heavy body of a stout. Really hits the spot. canary dog (445), Rutland, Vermont, USA

Dark but mellow, with a velvety mouthfeel and cocoa powder background notes. Nice creamy head, too. A fine brew, if not just a hair too sweet. Not worth the cost, however. Anise, chocolate, coffee, roastiness, and yeast. Aftertaste of dark chocolate that is somewhat sour. Some dark fruit shows up late. Feels thin at times and rich and creamy at others. A unique stout and a delight to sample.
