Allagash Black, our new Belgian style stout, is brewed with German 2 row barley, Torrified wheat and oats, balanced by a large addition of Belgian dark candi to give the Black a full and silky mouthfeel. Roasted malts give this stout its classic chocolate, toast and malty taste, and contribute to chocolate notes and a hint of roasted coffee in the aroma. The Black is fermented with a Belgian yeast strain and refermented in the bottle with the methode champenoise to make this beer truly unique. sweet stout with a hint of carbonation/fizz...delicious, not over powering with malt but just enough to know they are there...thin on the tongue and the taste of dark fruit, raisins...after having pale ales all day this baby was a huge way to kick off the evening’s festivities...

Enjoyable. Mix of a traditional stout and Belgian ale, but I am not a huge fan of Belgian Ales in general so this was just OK.

Bottle at CBC Denver, April 10 2014.
Bottle did mention Belgian on it too.
Hazy dark brown color, tan head. Roasted, phenolic scent. Sweet, sugary, phenolic taste. Sweet aftertaste. Fizzy mouthfeel, medium bitterness.

Draft. Pours...well, Black...with no head. Aroma is dark roast coffee, slightly floral. Taste is dark and earthy - the wheat/oats give nice body. Somewhat of a smoky or burnt coffee acridity here. Belgian yeast characterics come through with some fruitiness.

Unique, very appealing Belgian aroma. Coffee colored with thin tan head. What a nice complexity of Belgian and traditional stout notes with smooth feel across the tongue. The finish is crisp, clean and quite satisfying. A very good brew.

Pours about the darkest shade of brown possible. Aroma is malt, chocolate, cocoa nibs, roasty, and coffee. Taste is cocoa nib bitter up front, chocolate milk, huge caramel, a semi-sweet chocolate, roasty, smoke, chocolate malt, sweet cereal grain, black coffee. Very palatable for such a big beer. Overall fantastic, can’t say we have much experience with a belgian dark but damn is this tasty. Get AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE OF THIS.

Bottle from a craft beer store in Boston. 750ml. Poured into a make shift snifter in my hotel room. Pretty much a black pour with some off-white head. Aroma of coffee, Belgian yeasts, roasted malts, and cocoa nibs. Taste is coffee, cocoa nibs, vanilla and heavy Belgian yeasts. Smooth, carbonated mouth feel. Kind of a weird oat-biscuit flavor as well. Not sure about this one. I like porters but when combined with the Belgian yeasts it is odd.

Not very aromatic in my opinion. Taste a bit like caramel and coffee, clean, crisp finish. Light body. Meh.
