Tap at City Beer in downtown SF-June 2012-pours deep brown almost black with a froathy tan head. nose is sweet foregin stout, with sweet vanilla and oak. WOW! crazy roasty chocolate vanilla flavors, like an ice cream cone! fantastic! rich lush body, especially for this style. never becomes viscus. A fairly complex brew however, i wish i had a bigger sample (6 oz). I was not a fan of City beer-over hyped and over priced!

On tap at The Map Room. Pours a cloudy, darker brown body with a few amber highlights around the edges. Finger-width, dense and creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is big bourbon and wood with a moderate roast, a light vanilla, a touch of dark chocolates, some dark fruits, and a light Belgian yeast. Flavor is similar. Big bourbon and wood up front with a bit more of a dark chocolate and moderate roast backing. Some vanilla in the middle with a light dark fruit and Belgian yeast hint. Bourbon, vanilla, and chocolate lead this into the finish where it ends pretty dry with a medium-light roastiness, some wood, and a bit of a cookie malt sweetness. Lengthy aftertaste following a pretty creamy, medium body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a nice beer. Lots of bourbon, wood, and vanilla with a solid chocolate, moderate roast, light dark fruit, and touch of Belgian yeast. Highly enjoyable.

Handbottle from Hopdog, thanks a ton. Big, luscious, lip-smacking oily bourbon aroma. Notes of cedar wood. Oily body, vanilla infused bourbon flavors with a bit of carbonic acid and a fairly astringent mid-body. Very little finish besides a mild bourbon burn. The Black was too subtle for 10 months in a bourbon barrel, and though the bourbon is not necessarily overwhelming, it covers all the subtleties of the beer and leaves a fairly lifeless beverage akin to one of those 5% "jack and coke" type things. Thanks a bunch Steve for the bottle.

Big chocolate and bourbon nose, very boozy. Moderately sweet taste with a light bitterness. Lots of buttery coconut-y bourbon in this one to go along with the usual chocolate, toffee and light roast.

Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is bourbon forward...not hot...roasty and vanilla notes too. Flavor follows suit...definite bourbon, lt vanilla, roasty and dark fruit notes...just a touch of oak. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is bourbon/vanilla/oak and dry and roasty.

On tap at Julianís - Providence, RI. Finishing off my four sampler of Allagashís return to Rhode Island, Iím reminded that, oh right, I donít like Allagash beers. I never buy their bottles because I always find the beers undewhelming and overpriced. Able to sample a number at a reasonable price, it seems like a better deal, but still leaves me flat. This bourbon black is a sloppy mess. The underlying stout is weak, compromised, and more like a brown ale. Somehow, the bourbon gets lost and doesnít integrate well. Mediocre.

750 ml bottle thanks to lukaduke. Pours a darker brown with a beige head of foam. Aroma is sweet licorice, bourbon, roast, some wet wood. The taste is a darker sweetness with some roast and alcohol heat coming through in the finish. Pretty good overall.

Draft at Leonís. Pours a dark brown almost black with a thin tan head. Scent is roasted malts and bourbon. Taste is roasty, fruity and booze. Dry roasted bitter finish.

EBF 2010 Session One: Deep brown with a tan film of head. The aroma has mocha, wood, peat, toasted dry oak and some marshmallow character. The flavor is oaky with notes of cocoa, mild coffee, and dry bourbon meshes with a chocolaty presence. Very cohesive flavors and picked up nice dry woody tannins from the barrel. Subtle, complex and tasty.

From the tap poured a black color with a good amount of head. Sweet toasted malty flavor with a lingering finish.
