Draft at Devil’s Den on 4/3/10. Pours pale amber (lighter than expected based on the description) topped with a medium sized off white head. Aroma of smoke, caramel, lemon, and iced tea. Caramel hits the palate initially, but is quickly overtaken by smoke. Smoke and bacon persist on the palate. Drinkable, but not something I’d seek out again.

On draft at Capones. Pours a clear coppery amber with a medium sized frosty white head. Aroma of smoked candied malts, sweet and light fruits and cough syrup. Taste of smoked candied malts, cough syrup and light fruit.

On tap, Smoke ’em if ya Gots ’em Fest 2010. Pours a dark copper body with an off-white frothy head. Nice traditional campfire smoke nose with some sweet maltiness below. Some light yeastiness on the nose in addition. The flavor is a little light on the smoke with a nice slightly sweet toasty and caramel malt base. The smoke does linger on the finish nicely though. Light to medium bodied with fine fizzy carbonation. Pretty nice, I didn’t get a whole lot of Belgian character out of this, but it was a pretty nice Smoked.

(Old BA rate - tap) Clear marigold color; thinner white head; much lighter than other smoked beers that I’ve come across. Lots of smoke; touch bacony that even incorporates a bit of tabacco; light malt sweetness; pretty overpowering to me for the aroma. Bacon; burning campfire woodiness; burnt bacon-wood finish. Medium and a little viscous and slick; very low carbonation. Not the greatest drinkig for me and I really like smoked brews, some interesting things going on and definitely a more extreme brew. The smoke strength couple with the viscous MF kinda made me feel like I was drinking bacon grease at one point and nothing more

Pours a cloudy amber color with a medium, offwhite head. Aroma of smoked malt. Flavor of smoked malt, it’s also somewhat yeasty, the body is very soft and mellow. I love Allagash, but this beer is below their usual standard of quality.

Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - MAY 29, 2010
On tap at the Brick Store Pub in Decatur, GA. Pours a clear copper-amber colored body with a creamy, finger-width, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is smoky and fruity with a nice peppery hop. Some light caramels with a cherry charred wood, peat, and brown sugar bacon. Very soft, but plentiful aroma. Nice. Flavor is more the same. Lots of soft smoke with a more noticable, but light feeling caramel malt balance. Lots of fruit to even out the smoke with some citrus esters and more of that cherry wood that completely dries this out. A touch of malt sweetness in the finish with lots of smoke and a light earthy bitterness. Peaty with a touch of brown sugar and just a hint of funky yeast. Lengthy aftertaste following a very smooth, medium body although it drank a lot lighter and easier. Very clean with a light carbonation. Overall, I was impressed with this one. Lots of smoke with a solid fruit and lighter caramel balance. Very woody which adds to a pleasant dryness along with a light earthy hop. This was really nice.

Draft. Rich amber beer with a cream colored head. Smoke and light malt aroma. Nice smoke flavor with a bit of bacon. Medium-plus bodied. Nice smoke lingers with a light woodsiness and light malt.

Pours copper with an off white head. Smells of caramel, smoked malt, some peppery hints. Tastes smoky and sweet with some fruity touches and peppery splashes on the finish.
