375ml bottle. Comparison between cerise and balaton, two different cherries... Cerise pours almost a red grapefruity orange while the ablation is a truer deeper red. The latter exhibit more effervescent while the former displays a lesser sense of it. Both are fairly turbid and non-transparent... Aroma of cerise exemplifies more of the resurgam nature, nit sure if that’s the base but it seems like it. The belaton has a more definitive cherry forwardness with some seedy like berry qualities to boot with even a light cinammon quality... Cerise displays more of that resurgam lambicness with a very subtle cherry essence in the flavor where as the ablation is more of an acidic cherry quality. Def enjoy the barnyard funk of the cerise moreso than the balaton. Both have a lively mouthfeel and lighter than medium body. Nice sour offerings from the people from allagash. Thanks Tom for sharing. Cerise - 8/4/8/4/15 Belaton - 8/4/7/4/15

30/VIII/2012 37,5cl bottle @ 3 Fonteinen open deur (Beersel) - BB: n/a (2012-981) A huge thanks to Armand for sharing this bottle!

Clear pale orange to light pinkish beer, big fluffy white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very cheesy, dusty, onions, sweet raspberries, some forest fruits, a certain bretta quality as well, surprisingly. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit cheesy, onions, almonds, little bitter, bit fruity, cheesy stuff, raspberries, bit lemony, touch of bitter lemon peel. Aftertaste: little bitter, some red fruits, sweet touch, bit cheesy, more bretta stuff, almonds, bitter peaches. Could be a real Belgian fruit lambic for all I know, but not a Kriek. The fruit is too different. Still, a job well done!

Pours straw gold with a pink hue and a white fizzy dissipating head. Smells of funky cherries, tarte, some sugary hints. Tastes of dry malt, some floral notes that quickly give way to tarte cherries. Interesting blend.

Huge thanks to sideshowe for sharing this rare gem! Pours a hazy dark orange color with a one finger off-white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring.  Spotty lacing left behind. Earthy, musty aroma with lots of barnyard/horsey character.  Hints of oak, funky bugs, lactic acid and cobweb followed by faint fruit and acetic vinegar.  I was expecting the nose to be bursting with cherry but it’s pretty subtle.  Smells pretty good with some nice funk but kind of one dimensional. Medium bodied with a tart, lactic funk that isn’t acetic or harsh.  Decently sour but not too much do.  More funky than anything else with a slight acetic quality.  Just a touch of vinegar in the finish but not solent like.  Not very sweet with the cherries again being slightly integrated.  Subtle vinous character with some fruit skin and cherry pit.  Finishes dry with some lingering acidity.

Bottle huge thanks to Greg from CK for this one!! Pours a lovely light pink, cloudy color, seems like not as much fruit extraction via color from your typical kriek. Nose is absolutely stunning, with gorgeous tannic cherry pit, funky brett, and minimal acetic acid but gorgeous sour presence. Same on the flavor, with beautiful biting cherry but no astringent acidity. Just wondrous.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2012 Bottle @ home, cracked open to celebrate finishing my second master’s degree and the crown jewel of JetsonFest II. Opened the 375 with a slight pop though it didn’t gush. Beautiful pinkish peach, cloudy appearance with a mild to moderate sized white head. The aroma just has a ton of cheese, funk, and barnyard elements very reminiscent of a nice Belgian-made gueuze. The cherry element in the nose is fairly mild but packs a mild tartness and a nice sweet, pie-like aroma. Tons of cheese in the nose. I’m in love so far. Quite tart pie cherry taste in the flavor that is again a bit in the background compared to the cheesy, funky elements. The tartness does jump in and pucker your cheeks immediately. Good carbonation leads a refreshing acidity. The cheesy, funky, lactic/lemon element, while quite prominent in the flavor, isn’t as perfect as the aroma. Puckering, funky finish with a very nice, lasting aftertaste. I think maybe I would have liked a bigger cherry presence, but fuck, beggars can’t be choosers. Aroma was unbelievable. Tasted next a 2009 Cantillon Kriek and the aroma on this one was far superior and far less sour in the flavor.

Pour out of 375 mL bottle, huge thanks to Aaron for opening the bottle! Orange-pink pour with thin white head, aroma has notes of Parmesan cheese, cherry pie with nice sour lemon, lactic notes, touch of dusty earth, funky sour, this is awesome. Taste is nice funky basement, horseblanket, some slight grass and lemon notes, touch of cherry, big funky dirty socks, finishing fairly tart with some cherry notes. Way more funky on the taste, with a big dry white wine dryness. Very tasty.

Pours a nice pink color with an off-white head. The cherries certainly come through. A bit of a cherry pie type aroma along with oak and grass. A bit on the sweet side. The flavor does have a significant cherry component, but it’s also a bit watery. Lightly sweet with a mild lemon tartness. Not much in the way of depth or complexity, but easy to drink.

Appearance: Pours a light pink with a thin film of bubbles.

Aroma: Swimming pool and cherry.

Taste: Metallic and barn yardy funk and sour cherry.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low carbonation.

Overall: I enjoyed the Balaton better than this, still fun to try.
