@ Quintessence - Cherry-red color, small pink head. Cherries, raspberries, lemon peel, malt, nearly no funk. Taste reveals a lot more raspberries, backed up by lemon zest, Bretts, crisp mouthfeel. Acidity is decent at first, but results in a long fizzy, sour aftertaste. Light to medium body, very convincing taste.

37,5cl bottle sampled@NachtvdGroteDorst 2014. Raspberry ice cream nose. This looks great as liquid candy, but both aroma, taste and watery palate brought to mind a bag of supermarket refrigerator raspberries forgotten in the car trunk and drained straight from the bag, condense water and all, for immediate libation. Tartness is that of pure raspberries, gone on a bed of condense liquid. OK dry finish. Like many US instant sours (cf. New Glarus) this just doesn’t radiate patient craft with a backbone of tradition for me as much as the real deal.

@ Cantillon Quintessence. Red colour, white foam. Medium carbonation. Sour and complex fruity aroma of red fruit. Light sweetness, tart finish. Very good!

Bottle sample at Quintessence 2014 - pours fresh red with a fizzy light pink head. Aroma is on the unripe red berries and lots of lime. Light crisp body but a bit too much fruity sourness. Taste is rhubarb, lemon and pure cherry juice. A bit too tart and sour.

375 ml. bottle sampled @ Cantillon Quintessence 2014. About 1 year old if I remember correctly. Pour a clear copper pink with virtually no head. Nose is tart thinned, out touch acetic raspberries, reminiscent of an older Rosé De Gambrinus in both smell and taste, some lemon sour here as well with brett, little to no funk. Taste is a bit vinegar like, sour lemons, raspberry vinegar, brett, lots of pits, little funk, lingering acidity. Body is really thinned out. Quite a nice beer. This one really reminded me of an aged Rosé De Gambrinus, I tried a Rosé De Gambrinus after this one, I think that one was too young fro comparisons. Far fruitier than this one and bit more depth, preferable.

2014.04 - Cantillon Quintessence 2014 - frambozen - wint tot mijn verrassing met een fietslengte voor het wedstrijdje met de ’rosé de gambrinus’ van Cantillon. Verrukkelijk !

Bottle sample @ Cantillon Quintessence 2014.

Sample night of the great thirst. bright red, nose was sweet, tart and savory all at once. reminds me of a handful of crushed raspberries and lemon zest. taste was light and crisp. lemon, lime, juicy cherry and raspberry and tree fruit, very dry overzealous carbonation.
